Erik Ten Hag Banned For Everton vs Manchester United

Erik Ten Hag becomes the second manager to sit out a game after an accumulation of cards this season, joining Pep Guardiola who was forced to watch his side fall to defeat against Wolves in September.

Graham Scott, the official in charge of Manchester United’s slender 1-0 victory over Luton, handed Ten Hag a card after the Dutchman was seen complaining about a throw-in decision that failed to go his side’s way.

Ten Hag will now serve a one-match touchline ban against Everton on the 26th November – United’s first game following the upcoming international break.

Nine more yellow cards and Ten Hag will be sanctioned with a three-match ban, although the United head honcho is likely to tread with caution after a slightly out-of-character loss of composure.

PGMOL voiced their intentions prior to the start of the campaign, promising a stricter approach to touchline behaviour from managers and backroom staff.

With Ten Hag and Guardiola feeling the wrath of the officials so far, their no-nonsense approach has perhaps led to a re-think from certain managers. Mikel Arteta, who often cut an animated figure on the touchline last season, appears to have taken a softer approach in order to steer clear of a caution, although he has already been booked this campaign during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Fulham.

Whether Ten Hag’s absence from the touchline will have an adverse effect remains to be seen, but United will be more concerned over the fitness of several of their key starters – perhaps most notably Rasmus Hojlund, who was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury against Luton.
