The EFL is considering scrapping the Saturday 3pm blackout as part of their new TV rights deal starting from 2024.
The current five-year deal with Sky Sports has caused controversy ever since it was negotiated back in 2018, with many clubs believing it undervalued their competition. The agreement in place now is that Sky must show at least 138 league matches a season as well as every play-off game and the Carabao Cup final.
Some pretty big news this morning…
The EFL has moved towards lifting England’s traditional 3pm television blackout.
It has issued a request for proposals for broadcast rights from 2024-25, when its agreement with Sky Sports expires.

However there is a hope that the EFL could strike a much bigger deal with streaming services such as Amazon, Netflix and Apple potentially being interested.
Dropping the 3pm blackout would allow for all fixtures to be available to stream, and it would come from the EFL lobbying the FA, who as a result would have to apply to UEFA for an exemption.
