David De Gea looked set for a move to Genoa finally after being without a club for the 2023/24 season, but his transfer is now off after the goalkeeper demanded higher wages.

David De Gea Genoa Transfer Off

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is continuing to cause problems, after the Spaniard’s move to Serie A side Genoa was put on hold when the parties failed to reach an agreement.

De Gea left Manchester United at the end of 2023 and despite winning the coveted Premier League Golden Glove, he left the club following mistakes that left fans unhappy with their number one.

During his 12 years in Manchester, De Gea played 545 times for the Red Devils – picking up a Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League and two League Cups.

After leaving United, De Gea wasn’t able to find a club immediately and the Spaniard was forced to watch on from the sidelines in the 2023/24 campaign as he wasn’t able to come to an agreement with a new team.

One year on and De Gea is having trouble finding a club again after failing to come to an agreement with Genoa on his wage structure.

The goalkeeper reportedly wanted more from the Serie A side on his return to the pitch but they were unwilling to offer more to a player who has been out of action for over a year.

After a season away, De Gea was keen on a move back to Manchester ahead of the new campaign, but only if manager Erik Ten Hag and technical director John Murtough were no longer at the club.

De Gea has posted a number of ambiguous tweets during his year away from football, often related to his former club when they are struggling or about his current situation.

Genoa are reportedly not interested in renegotiating with De Gea and would rather look elsewhere for a new goalkeeper.
