Not many footballers have enjoyed as much success after retiring as they did during their career, but David Beckham has become one of the most shrewd businessmen on the planet since he hung up his boots. Read on to find out more about the former England captain’s assets and net worth.
David Beckham Net Worth
David Beckham was once one of the greatest footballers on the planet, but since retiring, the Manchester United and Real Madrid legend has built a business empire to marvel at.
Although the exact details are unknown, Beckham’s current net worth is presumed to be around $450m from his exploits both on and off the pitch since he retired.
David Beckham Career
David Beckham is widely regarded as one of England’s greatest ever football players and he began his career at his most beloved club, playing under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
During his first few seasons in Manchester, Beckham quickly became one of the most sought after players on the planet with the young star helping United to an FA Cup and Premier League double in 1996.
The Englishman established himself as one of the hottest properties in the Premier League during his first few seasons and he was reported to be the second highest paid player in the world as of 1999 at the age of just 24.
Beckham continued his career at Manchester United for over 10 years, where he became a legend at the club, lifting six Premier League titles and two FA Cups.
It was in 2003 that Beckham eventually moved away form Manchester after a disagreement with his manager, as his boyhood club accepted a £25m bid from Real Madrid for their superstar who had fallen out of favour.
Beckham was just the third Englishman to become a Galactico, helping his side to a La Liga title and Spanish Cup before making his next career change to America, where he began to be recognised on a global scale.
‘Becks’ enjoyed five years in the MLS, despite spending two of those seasons on loan in Serie A playing for AC Milan.
The former Manchester United star completely transformed the MLS during his time in America, cultivating the league into one of the best in the world after his time there.
Beckham enjoyed one more stint in Europe before he retired, becoming a PSG player in 2013 where he won his final league title before eventually saying an emotional farewell to football in May later that year.
International Career
Beckham’s international career was almost as impressive as his club career, but he had plenty of ups and downs for the Three Lions during his time as a player.
The England star made his debut for England in 1996 at the age of just 21, in a World Cup qualifier match against Moldova.
The Manchester United youngster played a part in all of England’s qualifying matches for the 1998 World Cup, but he faced public criticism from manager Glenn Hoddle, who accused Beckham of not being entirely focused on the tournament.
Despite his excellent club form and widely being regarded as one of the best players in England, Beckham was benched for the first two games of the tournament with Hoddle unhappy with the midfielder.
In England’s third group stage game Beckham was finally given his chance and he scored his first goal with a typically inch-perfect free kick against Colombia to well and truly announce himself on the international stage.
Beckham reached his lowest low for England at the same World Cup, as the 23-year-old received a controversial red card against Argentina in the last 16 which eventually cost England their place in the competition.
The youngster certainly didn’t let one tournament define him though, as Beckham went on to be named England captain by 2000, which completed the player’s transformation from villain to hero.
Although he never won a trophy with England, Beckham is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever wear the Three Lions shirt, with his free kicks becoming iconic during his time for the country.
Inter Miami
Since retiring from football in 2013, David Beckham has become a shrewd businessman with his acquisition of MLS expansion team Inter Miami in 2014.
Beckham bought the MLS side for $25m, which was a part of his agreement with LA Galaxy from when he was still a player in the MLS just one year before.
After stadium construction delays amongst other issues, Beckham’s side eventually entered the MLS in 2020, with the world taking notice of the new club.
Inter Miami made its MLS debut in 2020 with a 1-0 loss to Los Angeles, but since then they have become one of the most recognised teams in the world – after signing eight time Balon D’or winner Lionel Messi earlier in the year.
