Chelsea and Man City played out arguably the best game of the season so far on Sunday afternoon in a terrific 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge where Cole Palmer scored a late penalty to equalise against his former club.
Chelsea 4-4 Man City: Cole Palmer Scores Late Equaliser Against Former Side
First Half
Chelsea hosted Man City looking to build on last Monday’s huge 4-1 win over Tottenham, meanwhile the visitors were hoping to extend their winning run to six games in all competitions.
Things got off to a fairly even start, with both sides creating chances. However, it was the visitors that went 1-0 up. After a long VAR check, City were awarded a penalty after Marc Cucurella was deemed to have fouled Erling Haaland in the spot. It was the Norwegian who stepped forward to take the spot kick, and he made no mistake.

But Chelsea fought back well and found an equaliser just four minutes later. Thiago Silva headed in from a Conor Gallagher corner, setting up a very entertaining climax to the game.
The Blues started to flourish and their hard work was rewarded once again, and they went 2-1 up through former City forward Raheem Sterling. He pounced on a fabulous Reece James cross, finishing from close range, just like he used to do when he played for his former club.

Things were not finished there, and neither were Pep Guaridola‘s side. Bernardo Silva delivered a perfect cross which Manuel Akanji got on the end of to score his third goal in four matches. The Swiss defender rose higher than the rest and levelled the scoreline at 2-2 going into half-time.
Second Half
With it all to play for in the second half, City came out where they left off and went 3-2 up just two minutes after the restart. Haaland scored his second of the contest as he bundled the ball home after Julian Alvarez put in a dangerous low cross. VAR had a look at it for a possible hand ball but the goal stood and the visitors were in front.
In what was possibly the most entertaining game of the season yet, Chelsea were level once again. It was Nicolas Jackson who finished cooly after Gallagher’s shot was parried away by Ederson, leaving the summer signing to tap the rebound in to make it 3-3.
The treble winners shown exactly why they have won so much in recent times, and Rodri put City 4-3 up with just minutes to go. With a bit of fortune on the way, the Spaniard’s deflected effort sent his side ahead.

Although there was still another twist in the tale and Chelsea were awarded a penalty on the 92nd minute. Rubian Dias misjudged his tackle and fouled Armando Broja.
Cole Palmer stepped up against his former club and cooly converted the penalty making it the fourth time he has scored from the spot since joining the Blues. In a superb clash, the game ended 4-4.
And breathe…
