Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Manchester City’s Rico Lewis have earned their first England call-ups for this month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia. Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has also been drafted in.
Cole Palmer & Rico Lewis Receive First Senior Call-Up
The duo were originally called up to Lee Carsley’s Under-21 squad, but with James Maddison and Callum Wilson withdrawing due to injury, Palmer and Lewis have stepped in. This comes less than 24 hours after Palmer scored from the spot in stoppage time in Chelsea and City’s 4-4 draw.
Meanwhile Konsa has come in to replace Lewis Dunk, who was injured in Brighton’s win over Ajax in the Europa League last Thursday and missed the draw against Sheffield United on Sunday.

The Three Lions host Malta on Friday and face a trip to North Macedonia next Monday which will see their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign come to an end.
Jude Bellingham is also set to officially withdraw from the squad in the next 24 hours after struggling to recover from a shoulder injury. He missed last week’s Champions League win over Braga, and this weekend’s La Liga triumph against Valencia.
Three Lions Statement
England released a statement this morning on the replacements: “Ezri Konsa, Cole Palmer and Rico Lewis have received their first call up to the England senior squad. Aston Villa defender Konsa was a 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup winner and also won seven caps for the MU21s, during which he added the 2018 Toulon Tournament to his international honours,
“Chelsea forward Palmer has represented England from U15s upwards. He has 15 MU21 caps, scoring on five occasions, and lifted the U21 EURO last summer. Manchester City’s Lewis is another who has progressed through the England pathway. Like Palmer, the 18-year-old was originally included in Lee Carsley’s MU21 squad with four caps to his name for that age group.
“The trio’s addition follows the withdrawal of James Maddison, Lewis Dunk and Callum Wilson across the course of the weekend. The majority of Gareth Southgate’s squad are due to report to St. George’s Park on Monday with further assessments to take place.”
