Chelsea vs Sheffield United Report: Blues return to winning ways
The hosts entered the game facing the possibility of enduring three consecutive Premier League defeats for the first time under Mauricio Pochettino. Sheffield United, on the other hand, looked to build on their win over Brentford last weekend.
The first half was short of inspiration but full of perspiration, particularly from Sheffield United, who barely had any of the ball. However, the Blues managed just one shot on target in the opening 45, leaving Wes Foderingham far from busy.
Chelsea struggled to break Chris Wilder’s side down until the 54th minute, when Cole Palmer converted Raheem Sterling’s low cross from the right to score his sixth league goal of the season.
Nicolas Jackson doubled their lead shortly after, bringing his Premier League tally up to seven. The Senegal striker has now directly contributed to goals in each of his last three games at Stamford Bridge.
The win edges the Blues back into the top half of the table, while Sheffield United remain rooted to the bottom on just eight points.
Chelsea will host Newcastle in the Carabao Cup quarter finals in midweek, before visiting Wolves next Sunday. As for the Blades, they face a tough trip to Vila Park on Friday night to face an Aston Villa side that have won their last 15 Premier League games at home.
