Newcastle travel to the English capital for a Tuesday evening clash against Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup amid several injury concerns within the pair’s squads.
Both sides enjoyed victory in the league last time out, with the Blues scoring twice in the second period to beat Sheffield United 2-0, while Eddie Howe‘s Magpies comfortably dispatched 10-man Fulham 3-0 at St. James’ Park.
Those wins brought an end to an unwanted run of defeats for both sides. Chelsea had suffered two defeats at the hands of Manchester United and Everton prior to that one, meanwhile Newcastle had lost three in succession and had gone crashing out of the Champions League group stages.
Tuesday night’s visitors will be looking to replicate last year’s run in the competition where they eventually lost in the final at Wembley, and they’ve given themselves a fairly good shot at doing so after eliminating the reigning champions Manchester United 3-0 in the previous round.
As for the West Londoners, goals from Benoit Badiashile and Raheem Sterling either side of the half time whistle saw them overcome Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the last round – as they aim to lift the trophy for a sixth time throughout their glittering history.

Christopher Nkunku was named on the bench in the Premier League for the first time at the weekend, and after failing to come on at any point – he could be in line to make his debut in the cup against the Magpies.
If he does – he won’t be joined on the pitch by Wesley Fofana (knee), Carney Chukwuemeka (knee), Trevoh Chalobah (thigh), Lesley Ugochukwu (unknown), Ben Chilwell (hamstring), Reece James (hamstring), Marc Cucurella (ankle), Robert Sanchez (knee), Noni Madueke (muscular) and Romeo Lavia (ankle) who are all absent through injury.
