The latest Chelsea transfer exclusive reveals that the club are still hopeful that they can land the signing of Victor Osimhen this summer, regardless of where they finish in the league.
Chelsea Remain Confident Of Luring Victor Osimhen To Stamford Bridge
The Blues believe they could sign Victor Osimhen – even without Champions League football. Osimhen revealed on Tuesday that his mind is already made up over the next stage of his career and gave a strong hint that he fancies life in the Premier League.
Chelsea see him as their dream No.9 target and sources have confirmed to SportsLens that there has been contact with representatives in recent months.
The Nigerian forward recently penned a new contract at Napoli until 2026 and his release clause is well in advance of £100million. However, the figures attached to signing Osimhen are not off-putting to Chelsea, but they know they must convince him that they can also meet his sporting ambitions.
Osimhen, 25, won Serie A last season – his first major trophy as a professional player – but his next big ambition is to go a step further and be crowned as a champion of Europe.
From early conversations there has been encouragement that Osimhen is open to joining Chelsea this year, but the one thing that needs to be addressed is their lack of European football.
The side are currently ninth in the Premier League table and 12 points off the pace to finish the season inside the top four.
It’s accepted that reaching the Champions League is going to be extremely tough but there is still a possibility of playing in other European competition next season. Plus, in line with the billion-pound recruitment spree of the past 18 months, Chelsea do believe their ambitions in the coming years match those of Osimhen.
Blues Acknowledge Real Madrid May Attract Osimhen
Arsenal are also being linked with Osimhen but the bigger fear at Chelsea has always been that Real Madrid might enter the frame. Their worldly status and pedigree would undoubtedly turn the head of Osimhen and even if he does fancy the Premier League, Madrid could offer him a better chance of claiming the biggest honours in the game.
Chelsea have other strikers in mind for the summer – including Ivan Toney and Evan Ferguson – but Osimhen is believed to be considered the top target by most at the club.
