Chelsea’s goalkeeper transfer shortlist has been bolstered ahead of the summer, with the situation set to become a talking again as the club consider another change.

Chelsea have struggled to find a reliable No.1 in recent seasons, and sources are indicating there is a good chance they will sign a new stopper in the next transfer window – if finances allow.

They currently have two summer 2023 signings – Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic – as their two main options between the sticks but it is expected a new top class keeper will be targeted before next season.

Kepa Arrizabalaga – on loan at Real Madrid – is expected to leave and Chelsea have begun working on a shortlist for who could come in.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale will be one of the names on the list. He is playing second fiddle to David Raya after being squeezed out since the Spaniard’s arrival. Raya will be signed permanently in the summer following an initial loan, and Ramsdale is open-minded about his next move.

As such he may even consider options abroad, but to remain in London could be preferential and Chelsea intend to touch base over the situation towards the back end of this campaign.

Ramsdale, 25, is of a similar age to both Sanchez and Petrovic but it is felt he is a “step up” in terms of becoming an established number one. Chelsea also like the fact he would count as a homegrown player.

Sources have told SportsLens that Diogo Costa, the FC Porto stopper, is also a target that has been studied for some time and will be again for the summer market.

Costa, 24, has top level experience across international football and the Champions League, coupled with an age that fits with the Chelsea profiling.

Chelsea were linked with a £64million for him last summer and it is felt he could be more likely to move this summer.

Contacts are not yet active over any attempted goalkeeper signing, but the feeling is that it is very likely they will look to make an addition and other options are going to emerge.

Kepa’s situation at Madrid has been less than ideal. He joined them to cover for injured Thibaut Courtois, yet has still not been the back-up goalkeeper recently.

Kepa, 29, has played just twice in La Liga since November as Andriy Lunin has been in terrific form as the deputy.
