Chelsea host Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals. The Premier League side are expected to win, and given the gap between their wage bills, it’s no surprise. But what are the Chelsea and Leicester City player wages?
The FA Cup offers Chelsea their only chance of winning a trophy this season after they missed out on the League Cup earlier this year. They’ve also struggled in the Premier League and are currently in the bottom half of the league, but still have a slim chance of qualifying for Europe.
Standing in their way of a spot in the final four is Championship side Leicester City. The Foxes are fighting for promotion back to the Premier League after their devastating relegation last season. In the past month, they’ve dropped points, but are still three points above 2nd place Leeds United.
For this weekend, both side’s priorities switch to the FA Cup as they meet at Stamford Bridge for a place in the semi-final of the FA Cup.
Ahead of the game, we’ve had a closer look at the Chelsea and Leicester City player wages using Capology.
Chelsea Player Wages
Chelsea haven’t been shy about spending money on player transfers. The same goes for their player wages. Their weekly payroll is £2,948,500 according to Capology, which works out at £153,322,000 a year.
Their highest earner according to Capology is Raheem Sterling. The winger is on £325,000 per week, which is £16.9m a year. His earnings make up 11.02% of Chelsea’s payroll.
The lowest earner in their team is Lucas Bergstrom. The Finnish goalkeeper is on a reported £4,000 per week at Chelsea. This makes up just 0.14% of the Chelsea payroll.
Leicester City Player Wages
Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship saw them release key players, which is typical of relegated Premier League teams. However, they did keep some of their big earners with the aim of making an immediate return. This explains their larger-than-usual weekly wage bill for a Championship team, of £1.1m.
At the top of the Leicester City wage bill is legendary striker, Jamie Vardy. The striker, who is in top form this season, is on a reported £140,000 per week. Vardy’s wage makes up 12.73% of Leicester City’s payroll.

Goalkeepers
Chelsea’s highest-earning goalkeeper is Spaniard, Robert Sanchez. The former Brighton ‘keeper earns £60,000 per week at Stamford Bridge. Despite being their highest-paid goalkeeper, Sanchez has failed to get his number-one spot back after returning from injury. The man beating him to the starting spot is Djordje Petrovic, who’s on a reported £25,000 per week.
Leicester City’s highest-earning goalkeeper is Danny Ward. The Welshmen is on £40,000 per week at the Foxes. But like Sanchez, although he’s their highest earner goalkeeper, he isn’t the number one choice. Leicester City’s number one goalkeeper this season has been Danish goalkeeper, Mad Hermansen, who’s on £10,000 per week.
Defenders
Chelsea’s defence is filled with players earning big amounts each week. Three of their five highest earners are defenders, Reece James (£250,000 p/w), Wesley Fofana (£200,000 p/w), and Ben Chillwell (£200,000 p/w). Unfortunately for Chelsea fans, all these three are currently out injured and won’t be featuring anytime soon.
For Leicester City, two out of their five highest-earning players are defenders. Ricardo Pereira (£80,000 p/w) and Conor Coady (£75,000 p/w). Despite their large wages, the pair don’t come close to the Chelsea players.
Midfielders
Despite two of their most expensive transfers being in the midfield department, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, neither are in the top five earning players at Chelsea. Enzo’s wage is a reported £180,000 per week, making him the highest-earning midfielder in the Chelsea team, while Caicedo earns £150,000 per week.
Leicester City’s player wages has only one midfielder in the top five. Former Tottenham man, Harry Winks, is their second-highest earner, earning £90,000 per week at the Foxes. The next nearest midfielder to Winks is Wilfred Ndidi, the Nigerian earns £75,000 per week at Leicester City.
Attackers
Chelsea’s attacking line has been led by Nicolas Jackson throughout this season. The attacker joined last summer and is on £65,000 per week at Stamford Bridge. His role as the main striker has been in part thanks to the injury-ridden first season for Christopher Nkunku (£195,000 p/w). The Frenchmen did return to action at the start of the year but is out injured again.

Leicester City do have good options going forward. Vardy has found his form again this season and is backed up by Kelechi Iheanacho. The former Manchester City forward is joint third in Leicester City’s highest-paid players, earning £80,000 per week.
- Chelsea – £2,948,500 per week
