The Group Stages

England have been drawn in group B for the World Cup alongside Iran, USA and Wales. As the highest ranked team in the group, the Three Lions are expected to make light work of their opposition early in the competition and are red hot favourites to go through to the round of 16 top of the group.

The biggest threats posed to England and their route to the round of 16 comes in the form of USA and Wales. Rob Page’s tricky Wales are a familiar opponent for England, who have come out on top against their neighbouring country on the last six occasions the sides met.

Englands predicted route to the final

Should England progress as Group B winners, they will meet the runner up of Group A which will see Gareth Southgate’s side take on either Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal or the Netherlands on December 4th in the round of 16.
If England are to slip up in Group B then they will face the winners of group A, who will most likely be the daunting Netherlands side who are expected to edge their group.
If the round of 16 wasn’t already hard enough, England would most likely have to face either France or Argentina in the quarter finals regardless of where they finish in their group, in a clash that would see the Three Lions taking on one of the only teams ranked higher than them in the tournament.
If all things go well during the first two weeks of the tournament and England perform at the levels expected of them then there could be a real chance that we see the young side make the World Cup final for the first time since 1966 – and we all know what happened that year…
Brazil, Portugal and Belgium are the biggest names in the other side of the draw and should England reach the final they would most likely face one of the tournament favourites in a high stakes winner takes all game on the 18th of December.
