Manchester United and Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has the worst save success rate at the Africa Cup of Nations and was dropped for his side’s final group game.

Onana’s Season So Far

Having signed for Manchester United from Inter Milan for £47.2m in the summer, Andre Onana has had an up-and-down start to life in England.

Largely responsible for the Red Devils’ failure to reach the Champions League knockout stages, but finding more consistency in the Premier League, the jury is still out on the former Inter Milan shot-stopper.

Following a year-long hiatus from international football, Onana announced that he would return to the national set-up for the Africa Cup of Nations and this was seen as an opportunity for the Cameroonian to find some form.

Onana’s Save Success Rate

However, after delaying his flight to the Ivory Coast in order to play in Manchester United’s FA Cup fixture against Wigan Athletic, Onana failed to make the squad for Cameroon’s opening AFCON game, a 1-1 draw with Guinea.

Onana was subsequently restored to the starting XI for Cameroon’s second fixture, but it did not go to script.

The Indomitable Lions lost 3-1 on the night to Senegal, with Onana conceding three goals from three shots on target, handing him the unwanted accolade of the ‘worst save success rate’ in the competition with 0%.

As a result, Onana was replaced by his cousin Fabrice Ondoa for Cameroon’s must-win final fixture against Gambia, who plays for third-tier French side Nimes.

Cameroon went on to win the tie 3-2, after a late own goal from Gambian centre-back James Gomez and a last-ditch winner from Cameroon defender Christopher Wooh.

Cameroon’s next Africa Cup of Nations fixture comes against Nigeria in the round of 16 where it remains to be seen whether Andre Onana can regain his place in Rigobert Song’s starting XI.
