Brighton vs Marseille Preview & Prediction
Marseille make the short trip across the English channel to take on Brighton at the Amex on the final matchday of the Europa League group stage. Both sides have already secured knockout stage qualification, however the winner of this one will be crowned group champions.
This is important as the group winner bypasses the play-offs straight into the last-16, meaning that they’ll play two games fewer which is especially beneficial at this time of year amid the busy schedule across all competitions.
Just a point separates the pair heading into the tie, with Marseille leading the group followed by the Seagulls in second. They met back in October for the reverse fixture at the Velodrome, in which Roberto De Zerbi’s side fought from 2-0 down to snatch a dramatic point late on.
Both sides have won three successive European matches since that tie, with the Ligue 1 side enjoying a stronger run of form domestically. Gennaro Gattuso’s side have won their last four, while Brighton played out a disappointing stalemate against Burnley at the weekend.
Despite not being in the greatest of form domestically, we at SportsLens are anticipating a famous European night at the Amex with Brighton reigning victorious, but only by a narrow margin.
Prediction: Brighton 2-1 Marseille

Brighton vs Marseille Betting Tips
- Both Teams To Score @ 8/13
- Joao Pedro To Score Anytime @ 6/4
- Combined Bet Builder Odds @ 5/2
Brighton vs Marseille Betting Tip 1: Both Teams To Score @ 8/13
Our first tip for your Thursday night Brighton vs Marseille Europa League bet builder is to back both teams to score during the match, priced by leading UK betting sites at 8/13.
As previously alluded to, this feat was achieved in the reverse fixture when the pair played out a 2-2 stalemate out in France, and two of Marseille’s three European matches since have done so too.
Incredibly, the Seagulls are yet to record a clean sheet in the league, while their Ligue 1 counterparts are scoring for fun at the minute with nine goals in their last three matches. This is why we believe that backing both teams to score in this one is a safe option.
Brighton vs Marseille Betting Tip 2: Joao Pedro To Score Anytime @ 6/4
With five goals to his name in the competition, Joao Pedro is Brighton’s top scorer in the Europa League by quite some distance. Ansu Fati, who is out injured, has the second most goals with two.
Four of Pedro’s five goals in Group B have come from the spot, including the Seagulls’ second against Marseille in the reverse fixture. His one open play goal came against Ajax back in September, before he added his third penalty in two games against AEK Athens at the end of last month.
That goal was part of a three game goalscoring streak, in which the ex-Watford forward also scored twice against Nottingham Forest, and once against Chelsea in the Premier League. At 6/4, we at SportsLens are backing Pedro to maintain this rich vein of form by scoring at anytime against Marseille on Thursday night.
