Brighton vs Brentford Report: Seagulls Come From Behind To Win
The Seagulls got back to winning ways on Wednesday night after losing out to Chelsea in the league last time out, coming from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 thanks to goals from both full-backs on the evening – Pascal Gross and Jack Hinshelwood.
Gross’ return to the Brighton line-up was a clear boost for the hosts coming into this one, and it was the German who had the first opportunity of the night from Hinshelwood’s cross, but he couldn’t direct his effort on goal and missed the target.
Just four minutes later – disaster struck for Roberto De Zerbi’s side as Jan Paul van Hecke was judged to have pulled Vitaly Janelt to the ground, and a penalty was awarded. With Ivan Toney still suspended, Bryan Mbeumo stepped up and converted to hand the Bees a first half lead.
That lead was short lived though, as Gross struck a left-footed effort past Mark Flekken from the edge of the area, assisted by Kaoru Mitoma, to restore the parity at the Amex just four minutes after the opener.
Having thrown away their lead just five minutes prior – it only got worse for the visitors. Top goalscorer Mbeumo went down after a challenge from Gross, and unable to shake off the injury – Yoane Wissa was forced to come on in his place, as the sides entered the break with a level scoreline.
Clearly determined to take home all three points against the Bees, Brighton took the lead just six minutes into the second period and it was a dream first senior goal for academy graduate Hinshelwood.
Gross had a huge part to play in the goal once again – chipping a cross towards the far post from the left, finding the 18-year-old who headed home across goal to send the home fans into raptures.
Chances were few and far between after this one, but the best of the lot came for Simon Adingra. The Ivorian looked to add a third for the hosts just 10 minutes from time with a volley, however Flekken dived across his goal to save well, as the clash ended 2-1 in favour of the Seagulls.
