Bournemouth vs Liverpool (0-4) Report: Nunez & Jota The Stars In Cherries Rout
Both Liverpool and Bournemouth came into this one fresh off the back of narrow victories in the FA Cup third round, however the pair had to deal with numerous absentees through injury and international involvement.
The Reds had 10 players missing, including Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Andrew Robertson, while Andoni Iraola had to form a team without Tyler Adams, Milos Kerkez, Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo.
It was an incredibly cagey first 45 minutes with little to separate the pair other than a few squandered half chances, seeing both sides head into the break with a goalless scoreline.
The game came to life in the second period almost instantly, as Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez expertly converted after some slick inter-play in the 47th minute, before Diogo Jota doubled the advantage 21 minutes later.
Jota was at it again in the 77th minute, volleying home the third for Jurgen Klopp‘s side after initially slicing his effort from young Conor Bradley’s cross.
Bournemouth threw everything at the Reds in search of a goal to spark a comeback, however all it did was the opposite. Joe Gomez’s inch-perfect cross found Nunez free in the hosts’ box, and the 24-year-old’s first time effort found the bottom right-hand corner to seal all three points for the visitors.
Liverpool move five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table with that victory, while Bournemouth remain in 12th place with a game-in-hand on the majority of the league.
