Atletico Madrid are closing in on a deal for Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, after agreeing an £81.5million fee for the Argentine forward.

Julian Alvarez Closing In On Atletico Transfer

Julian Alvarez is parting ways with Manchester City this summer, as the 24-year-old has decided to seek a new challenge after just over two years in England.

Manchester City are set to make a huge profit from the Alvarez sale, with a fee of £81.5m agreed. Alvarez signed from River Plate in 2022 for just £14m so the Premier League champions stand to make nearly £67m in profit in just two years.

Alvarez has won a plethora of trophies in his two years at City including a treble in 2022/23. As well as the immense treble, Alvarez secured another Premier League title last year on top of a Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

As well as his domestic success for City, Alvarez was also crowned as a world champion in 2022 – playing a huge role in Argentina’s World Cup glory in Qatar and their Copa America success last season.

Atletico Madrid will break the La Liga transfer record for this summer with their Alvarez deal and with good reason, as the Argentine has been one of City’s best players since joining despite not getting game time every week.

Alvarez scored 36 goals in 103 appearances across all competitions for Manchester City. The forward also notched up 18 assists during his two years in Manchester, playing a variety of positions under Pep Guardiola.

The sale of Alvarez is the fifth biggest move away from the Premier League, after Philippe Coutinho, Eden Hazard, Harry Kane and Gareth Bale. Of the top six most expensive Premier League sales in history, five of those have been moves to Spain.

Alvarez’ move to Madrid should trigger a deal for Chelsea, with the Blues in the market for Samu Omorodion in a deal worth around £40m.
