Brentford boss Thomas Frank has given up an update on whether he thinks Ivan Toney will stay at the club amid links to Arsenal and Chelsea.

What did Franks say?

Franks has been speaking to Danish news outlet Tipsbladet on Toney’s future. He said: “It’s quite obvious that Ivan Toney will most likely be sold in the summer.

“It can be expensive to sell your best player, but on the other hand, I also know that by summer, he’ll only have a year left on his contract with us.

“We also know what he’s worth. I don’t think there are many strikers in the world who are better than him right now.

“He’s a really good striker who is in his prime footballing age. Personally, as a coach, I would prefer to keep Toney, but one day it could be fun to see him at a top team.

“This winter, we actually had no bids for him, but it would surprise me if there aren’t a lot of clubs interested in him.”

Toney’s stats

Toney scored 20 goals for Brentford last season which helped him catch the eye of the top clubs in the Premier League.

He only made his first start of the current season in January as he was given a suspension in May for breaching betting rules.

Toney has returned to football in some style with two goals in three appearances. Pretty impressive for a player that missed eight months of professional football.

Where will Toney end up?

It’s likely to be either Chelsea or Arsenal. Arsenal will be the more appealing club for Toney at the minute. They’re title contenders and will no doubt seal a spot in the Champions League next season. One of the things that they have lacked this season has been a clinical striker. Toney could be the missing piece of that jigsaw.

Chelsea’s summer signings haven’t done well for them. This includes Nicolas Jackson. Jackson’s xG stands at 10.69 but the striker has only scored seven goals for them all season.

Christopher Nkunku has shown he can be clinical but injuries have kept him out for most of the season. He has two goals in six appearances.
