Ally McCoist has backed Paul Scholes’ comment on Jesse Lingard’s Instagram post and said that the former Manchester United midfielder is ‘wasting his talent’.
Lingard posted a picture of himself working out at a gym, to which Scholes commented, “Are you just gonna f**k about in the gym or are you gonna actually play football?”
Discussing the story on talkSPORT with Alan Brazil, McCoist backed Scholes, stating, “He’s 100% right, Paul Scholes.
“Two of the most frustrating guys on the planet, for me, are Jesse Lingard and Dele Alli, who might’ve been England’s two best players at the World Cup.
After praising the former Manchester United midfielder’s stint at West Ham, McCoist concluded, “The fact of the matter is Paul Scholes is 100% right, because Jesse Lingard, right now, is wasting his talent.”
Lingard has posted 27 training and gym posts on Instagram since his last Premier League game.
After being released from Man United, he had a brief spell at Nottingham Forest during the 2022/23 season, where he scored two goals in 20 appearances before leaving in the summer.
Now a free agent, transfer speculation surrounding the 31-year-old is rife, with David Moyes reportedly interested in bringing him back to West Ham.
Lingard enjoyed a successful spell at the Hammers in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign. He scored nine goals and provided five assists in just 16 appearances.
