Chelsea FC have been notorious for spending extravagantly since Todd Boehly took over the club in May 2022, with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo costing over £200m between them. However, the Blues have been militant in balancing their books, seeing a number of players leave Stamford Bridge.

The likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic all left the club for sizeable fees in the summer of 2023, and after a disappointing first half of the 2023/24 Premier League season, Chelsea will look to sell more players. Here at SportsLens, we take a closer look at those who could depart Chelsea in the January transfer window.

Chelsea’s January Exits

Chelsea’s departures in the January transfer window are expected to be plentiful, with the Blues reportedly close to breaching Profit & Sustainability Rules. It was only in November that Everton were found guilty of the same offence and docked 10 Premier League points as punishment, and Maurico Pochettino’s side will be keen to avoid the same outcome.

Home-grown players such as Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham, Marc Guehi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tino Livramento have all been shown the exit door in recent years in a bid to keep the Premier League at bay. Conor Gallagher could also be sold.

The England midfielder has been one of the first names on Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheet this season but talks have apparently stalled over a new deal, with Chelsea ready to cash in. Teams such as Newcastle and Tottenham could be interested in the £45m-rated midfielder, owing to their large injury lists.

Chelsea Transfer News

Conor Gallagher is the most likely Chelsea departure in the January transfer window – but who else could follow him? Recent reports suggest that Axel Disasi, Marc Cucurella, Malo Gusto, Noni Madueke, Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja and Ian Maatsen could all be sold by Chelsea.

Disasi only arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for a £38m fee from Monaco, and other Boehly-era signings such as Cucurella, Gusto and Madueke are all lined up on the conveyor built to depart Stamford Bridge. The predicted mass exodus should generate enough income for Maurico Pochettino to start spending again.

With Chelsea transfer targets in mind, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney have been shortlisted by the Blues; with a striker their top priority. Either player would more than likely help turn Chelsea’s faltering season around. The west Londoners are next in action against Sheffield Utd, and the best UK betting sites make Pochettino’s side 1/4 favourites.
