Betting Preview: 2024 Premier League Darts

Luke Littler

This year sees one of the most highly-anticipated editions of the Premier League in recent times, with teenage sensation Luke Littler making his debut in the competition after finishing runner-up in the recent World Darts Championship. He will become the youngest player in the history of the Premier League when he graces the stage.

Luke Humphries

Another one making his Premier League debut is World Champion Luke Humphries, a player who has been dominant in recent times. “Cool Hand” has won four majors in the space of three months to become the new World Number One and he heads into the tournament as the narrow betting favourite.

Michael van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen is a Premier League icon, and is seeking a record-breaking eighth victory in the tournament. He has enjoyed more success in this than any other player, and returns looking as back-to-back champion. “Mighty Mike” thrashed Gerwyn Price in last year’s final and comes here as the one to beat in this sphere.

Michael Smith

Michael Smith knows that he has been far from his best since winning the World Championship in January 2023, and has publicly stated he needs to practice more. “Bully Boy” made the semi-finals of this last year but judging on recent form, he needs to bounce back and quickly. He underperformed in the backend of 2023, but he has what it takes to do well here.

Nathan Aspinall

Nathan Aspinall was runner up in his Premier League debut back in 2020 when losing to Glen Durrant in the final, and he is back for his second successive tilt at this competition. He is another, like Smith who disappointed in the recent World Championships but “The Asp” is a crowd pleaser and could use that to his advantage across this 17-week tournament.

Gerwyn Price

Last year’s runner-up Gerwyn Price has not won a PDC major title since 2021, but he has often performed well in the Premier League and he will be hoping to return to form and go one better this time around. “The Ice Man” has not been the force of old in some time, but he could get off to the perfect start in his home country of Wales on Week One in Cardiff. He needs a confidence boost, and this may be the opportunity to do so.

Rob Cross

Rob Cross returns to the Premier League for the first time since 2021 after a fairly successful 2023. “Voltage” has been in smashing form and recently made it to the semi-finals of the World Championships before being beaten by Luke Littler. Cross made two major finals last year, finishing runner-up in both, but he’s been consistent and could be a dark horse in this year’s Premier League.

Peter Wright

“Snakebite” Peter Wright makes his 11th consecutive appearance in the Premier League, but he needs to seriously up his game to threaten any of these. Wright has found it tough on the big stage since winning the World Championship two years ago, with a mixture of not being able to find his perfect darts and other things not helping his cause. He’ll hope to improve a poor record in the Premier League, where he has only made the play-offs twice.

Michael Van Gerwen To Win Outright
Premier League Darts Outright Tips: Michael Van Gerwen To Win

Outright Winner: Michael Van Gerwen @ 7/2 With BetMGM

It’s fair to say that the Premier League is Michael van Gerwen’s bread and butter, and he is looking to smash his own record this year and pick up his eighth title.

The Dutchman always seems to come alive in this competition, and has only failed to make the final twice in 11 attempts. With seven victories to his name already, we can see him going very close once again.

Van Gerwen has a winning mentality and he should prove tough to beat if he gets back to form after an under-par 2023. He defeated Gerwyn Price with ease in last year’s final, winning 11-5.

Despite undergoing dental and jaw surgery last year, Van Gerwen managed to win the Premier League and the World Series of Darts. He still enjoyed a strong 2023 on the big stage, albeit not his best year in a while.

He has admitted there is plenty of room for improvement in his game and we can see the 34-year-old having a good 2024 and retaining his Premier League crown for a third year in a row.
