In the continuing pursuit of excellence and breeding thoroughbred racehorses, the winner has a guaranteed career at stud in their future. Epsom Derby results today thus influence the future of the sport in a big way.
Besides being the most valuable horse race in Britain, there is a huge amount of honour and prestige that goes with winning it. The Epsom Derby goes all the way back to 1780, so we’re talking almost 250 years of history behind the race. The roll of honour reads like a who’s who of the Flat with past winners including Diomed, Voltigeur, Gladiateur, Iroquois, Hyperion, Nijinsky, Mill Reef, Shergar, Galileo, New Approach, Sea The Stars and Camelot.
At Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey each and every June before Royal Ascot, the Cazoo Derby Stakes as it is now known for sponsorship reasons takes place. An age restricted Group One contest, Derby day is the annual highlight of the United Kingdom horse racing calendar. Inspiring the Kentucky Derby, the Jockey Club owns the track where Epsom Derby results and history is made.

Epsom Derby 2024 Results
Aidan O’Brien repeated last year’s feat of taking a 2000 Guineas blowout and turning him into a Derby winner. City OF Troy defied stall 1 and got a dream run towards the far rail. He bested Lingfield Derby Trial winner Ambiente Friendly, giving jockey Ryan Moore a fourth winner of the premier Classic. This was a 10th Epsom showpiece victory for Ballydoyle.
O’Brien also saddled the third home Los Angeles, as the first three in the betting were 1-2-3. The 2024 Epsom Derby results also show outsiders Deira Mile and Sayedaty Sadaty in the minor money with four and fifth places respectively. Disappointments included Godolphin’s Ancient Wisdom, who could only finish eighth. Richard Hannon’s Voyage unseated a couple of strides after coming out the stalls.

1st | City Of Troy (1) | Ryan Moore | Aidan O’Brien | 2¾ lengths | 3/1F |
2nd | Ambiente Friendly (6) | Rab Havlin | James Fanshawe | 3¼ lengths | 9/2 |

Epsom Derby 2023 Results
A record-extending ninth win in The Derby for Aidan O’Brien saw Auguste Rodin bounce back well and truly from his no-show in the 2000 Guineas. He needed every yard of the trip at Epsom to overhaul 66/1 Roger Varian outsider King Of Steel by half-a-length. The runner-up got first run, but stamina won the day for Auguste Rodin who had a muddling pace to aim at set by owner-stable companion San Antonio.
Looking at 2023 Epsom Derby results here, the front two pulled over four lengths clear of Irish raider White Birch with another Emerald Isle runner Sprewell taking minor honours in fourth. Dante winner The Foxes was only fifth for King Power Racing and Andrew Balding. Auguste Rodin, who gave Ryan Moore a third win in The Derby, had Triple Crown ambitions at the start of the season, but it’s not a stretch to imagine him doing the last two legs of that with the St Leger to come.
Position | Horse (Stall) | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Auguste Rodin (10) | Ryan Moore | Aidan O’Brien | ½ a length | 9/2 |
2nd | King Of Steel (4) | Kevin Stott | Roger Varian | 4¾ lengths | 66/1 |
3rd | White Birch (2) | Colin Keane | John Joseph Murphy | 1¾ lengths | 12/1 |
Epsom Derby 2022 Results
Sir Michael Stoute added a sixth Derby crown a dozen years after Workforce with Desert Crown scoring in the premier Classic on just his third career start. Inexperience didn’t matter as Richard Kingscote took things up two furlongs from home on the favourite and sauntered to the line from the completely unfancied Hoo Ya Mal.
Epsom Derby results from 2022 show that 150/1 outsider just holding second from Westover in the Juddmonte silks. The front three pulled over five lengths cleat from 66/1 shot Masekela with Aidan O’Brien duo Changingoftheguard and Stone Age taking minor honours. This was a second Epsom win for Desert Crown’s owner Saeed Suhail after Kris Kin for the same trainer 20 years earlier.
Position | Horse (Stall) | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Desert Crown (12) | Richard Kingscote | Sir Michael Stoute | 2½ lengths | 5/2F |

Epsom Derby 2021 Results
The Epsom Derby 2021 results today show Sandown Classic Trial winner Adayar running out a ready winner under Adam Kirby. Only the third string for the owners and trainers, he kicked clear approaching the final furlong and kept on strongly for a comfortable victory over big outsider Mojo Star.
Godolphin and retained trainer Charlie Appleby were also responsible for the third in the 2021 Epsom Derby results in Hurricane Lane. The best of the Irish, according to fast results, was Mac Swiney in fourth. Disappointing down the 11-runner field in seventh was the 11/8 favourite Bolshoi Ballet flopping for Aidan O’Brien.
Epsom Derby results 2021 belonged to Godolphin, though, with their three runners all in the first six. A maiden finishing second in the premier Classic would normally cast doubt on the form but Adayar came out and won the King George at Ascot, while Hurricane Lane went on to Irish Derby, Grand Prix de Paris and St Leger success.

He led in the last 100 yards and stayed on for victory over 10/1 shot Madhmoon, who held second by a nose from 20/1 chance Japan. Short-heads separated the third from Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial winner Broome and the fourth from Chester Vase scorer and 11/4 favourite Sir Dragonet in fifth.
Circus Maximus completed the dominant Irish sextet with the best British runner in Epsom Derby 2019 results back in seventh. The bunched finish to the race raised doubts about the strength of the form with the five home of the 13 runners within three-quarters of a length of each other.

1st | Anthony Van Dyck (7) | Seamie Heffernan | Aidan O’Brien | ½ a length | 13/2 |

Cracksman, representing the same connections as the 2015 winner (Golden Horn) and sent off favourite, was just a neck behind the runner-up in third. Wings Of Eagles went one better than in his second in the Chester Vase with this shock success in the Epsom Derby results 2017.
He prevailed despite a nightmare passage through the race that saw him hampered early on and later denied a clear run two from home.
