10 Best RTP Online Slots to Play in the UK
Let’s go though now and review each of the slots in our top ten list of the best RTP slots 2024 in turn, starting with …
1. 1429 Uncharted Seas (Thunderkick) – 98.8%
Thunderkick’s sea-faring slot is well-known as the casino world’s most popular and most easily-found high RTP slot. In terms of RTP, which in this slot is close to 99 percent, no other slot comes even close. The graphics of this easy-to-play slot are brilliant too, as they are all symbols from old maps, presented in a pleasing way that’s ‘shore’ to appeal. There ain’t nothing fishy about this slot, aside from what’s found deep down in the briny, and it sits proudly atop our list of online slots with best RTP.
2. Blood Suckers (NetEnt) – 98.0%
Blood Suckers is as far from a pain in the neck as you can get when playing any of NetEnt’s excellent range of slots. The blood-suckering vampires lurch around the screen and the crypt, spinning across the reels and hopefully landing you a few decent payouts. This is quite a scary slot though – so if you play it at night you may want to have a few cloves of garlic nearby, just in case.
3. Immortal Romance (Microgaming) – 96.9%
Immortal Romance has long been one of our favourites at SportsLens. It’s easily one of the best RTP Microgaming slots and we are happy to include it within our list of the best high RTP slots in the UK. The gothic feel of this game is evident at all times and it is extremely feature-rich. This is a progressive feature game in that there are four beneficial bonus features to unlock, and once you have unlocked them all you can choose which feature you want to play when the bonus is triggered! One of the best RTP slots 2024 and immense fun to play!
4. Dead or Alive (NetEnt) – 96.8%
The Wild West is a common theme for online slots and while we can’t claim that Dead or Alive is the best Western themed-slot available (although there is a heck of a lot in the way of competition) we can’t argue with the RTP of this game which is just the throw of a cowpat under 97 percent. This is also a very easy game to play, with only nine paylines but plenty of rip-roaring features.
5. Thunderstruck II (Microgaming) – 96.7%
The original version of this game was an amazing hit for Microgaming, introducing Norse lords such as Odin, Thor and Loki to the slotting universe. It was only a matter of time before Microgaming released a sequel which they did in 2010, adding Valkyrie and 243 ways to win. This is another game which progressive features that you can unlock and select from, just like Microgaming’s Immortal Romance. Another of the best RTP Microgaming slots.
6. Twin $pin (NetEnt) – 96.6%
Twin $pin (or Twin Spin, as some people call it) is an extremely easy slot to play that brings back the golden years of slots, with bells, cherries, lemons and lucky 7s standing alongside playing card values 10 to Ace. The chief gimmick of this slot is that on each spin two of the reels will magically synchronise, giving you more chances of landing a winning combo and even the dream ‘five in a row’. This is an ‘all ways pay’ slot with a very high RTP of 96.6%.
7. Double Bubble (Gamesys) – 96.32%
Double Bouble is probably the most unique slot to make it onto our top ten list. It has 20 lines, five reels and three rows – all good so far – but it comes with a kind of ‘sub game’ where you attempt to spell out the world ‘BONUS’ outside of the playing arena itself. Along with two bubblicious side games and a high RTP of 96.32 percent, Double Bubble is a very decent game with an excellent track record of paying out some big jackpots.
8. Rich Wilde & the Book of Dead (Play’n GO) – 96.2%
Hero adventurer Rich Wilde has become the face of Play’n GO’s iconic Egyptian or tomb raiding franchise. The original Book of Dead has become Play’n GO’s most popular slot and you can often gain free spins for it as a welcome bonus at plenty of online casinos. Rich and his daughter Cat has returned to the slotting world chasing Aztec Idols, and Cat has branched out on her own with the ‘Doom of Dead’.
9. Pink Elephants (Thunderkick) – 96.1%
Thunderkick’s Pink Elephants is a surprisingly creepy slot with six reels and four rows. The notorious pink elephants start popping up when you least expect it, and the more you see, the better the benefits including free spins and the chance to win up to 8,200 times your bet! This slot is another that has generated a sequel – called Pink Elephants 2 of course! You’ll be in the pink yourself if you play these slots as they both have advantageous RTPs.
10. Starburst (NetEnt) – 96.0%
Any list of the ‘best’ slots (for any reason) would have to include Starburst of course. This brilliant slot is possibly the most playable slot created of all time, and is a good today as it has ever been, even though now it’s so old it’s probably trying to grow its first moustache. Don’t been fooled with those ‘meagre’ ten paylines as Starburst pays both ways, and look out for those expanding wilds on the middle three reels. An absolute casino classic!
What is RTP in Online Slots?
RTP stands for ‘return to player’. It is a ballpark figure of the amount of money you can expect to have returned out of your original playing amount after a prolonged playing session. When it comes to the best RTP slots UK, you’ll need to know all about any slots’ return to player.
For example, say you sat down to play Starburst with a starting balance of £100. After a couple hours of play, you can expect to have £96 remaining, as Starbust has an RTP of 96%. Sounds simple, doesn’t it?
The question you may be asking yourself is, “What is the point of playing online slots if you are going to end up with less money that what you started with?”. The first answer to this question is that you should only be playing online slots for fun anyway – never play online slots with the expectation of winning money, as it just might not happen.
The second, and more thrilling answer to this question is that the best RTP slots are highly volatile. This means they are very prone to long winning streaks as they are to long losing streaks. It also means that after your long playing session with Starburst, you are just as likely to have £3 remaining, as you are to have £203. This is unlike casino games which are more consistent in the way that they play.
Say with our Starburst example you commence playing with £100, and after 100 spins you have £153. You then keep playing and after another 100 spins you have £96. Starburst has fulfilled its condition of having an RTP of 96%, but if you had stopped playing after 100 spins, you’d have taken a net profit of £53.
In truth, the RTPs of even the best RTP slots are theoretical, anyway. You know that the odds of a coin toss are 50:50. However, if you toss a coin twice you are not guaranteed to get one head and one tail. Even after ten tosses you might get three heads and seven tails. However, after one million tosses you’re going to be close to getting 500,000 heads and 500,000 tails – the more often you perform a random event, the closer the statistics of that random event will become to the theoretical, calculated probability. RTP works in much the same way – if you begin a session with Starburst with £1,000, and you play £0.01 per spin, then after one million spins you are very likely to have £960 remaining.
If you want to know the RTP of any slot, you’ll find it in the slot’s help files. It’s a legal requirement in the UK for the RTP of any slot to be made known to anyone who wants to play it.
How RTP is calculated
You need to understand how the best RTP slots UK work before you can understand how RTP is calculated.
When you play a slot on your laptop, for example, the ‘random element’ of the game does not happen on your laptop at all, even though it may seem like it. ALL slots spins are controlled by a server at the slot provider’s software site. For example, ALL spins of Starburst are controiled by NetEnt’s server(s).
Say each reel on the online slot you are playing has 50 symbols on it. When you hit the ‘spin’ button the slot will fire off a request to the server. The server’s random number generator will generate a random sequence – say, reel 1 will land in position 24, and reel 2 will land in position 17, and so on. The server will send this information back to the software on your laptop, and the reels will land according to the information the server provided.
When they are developing a slot, the developer will perform millions of spins (just from the server – no need to display the results in a graphical fashion), including the benefits from any side games, wilds, scatters and so on. This will calculate the RTP based on these millions of spins, enabling the developer to adjust the RTP if they feel it is too low or two high.
One final step before a slot can be released though – the developer will send their software off to an independent ratification organisation, such as eCOGRA. This agency will perform their own tests to make sure the RTP of the slot is close to the developer’s claims. This prevents a developer from claiming a slot has an RTP of 98% when in truth it’s closer to 94%. The best slots RTP is 96%, at a minimum
Slots Variance
We have mentioned slots variance before, so now here comes a more detailed explanation of variance (and volatility) when it coems to the best RTP slots for 2024.
‘Variance’ is actually a mathematical or scientific term. If you asked a million people in the UK to choose a number between one and ten, you’d expect to get around 100,000 people choosing one, and 100,000 people choosing two, and so on. If the choosing was entirely random then that is what you would get, but for some reason UK people are more likely to choose ‘7’ as a random number than any other, so might end up with 150,000 people choosing seven. This deviation from expectation is called the variance.
Variance in slots is tied to the ‘award’ of wins. Slots with high variance, over ten spins are as likely to award eight wins and two losses as they are two wins and eight losses. Slots with low variance will stick to a 5/5 win/loss split, or 4/6 (6/4).
So how does that combine with RTP? Well, a slot with a higher level of variance will take a longer time to reach the RTP percentage than those with a low variance. The lowest variance slot possible with an RTP of 96% will, 100% give you a £96 return after 100 spins with a £100 start.
High variance slots will give you more chance of winning, and winning big. The flipside of this is of course, you have more chance of losing, and losing big. Basically, it’s like buying lottery tickets. If you buy one lottery ticket at £1 and you don’t win the jackpot, you’ve lost £1. If you buy 1,000 £1 lottery tickets you’ve 1,000 times the chance of winning the jackpot, but if you don’t win, you’ve lost £1,000.
Progressive Jackpot Slots RTP
If you’ve been an inhabitant of slotland for some time, then you will know about slots with progressive jackpots, and that they don’t qualify among the best RTP online slots. These are slots where a tiny percentage of each wager placed on the slot (at any online casino that offers the slot) is held back and combined to create a jackpot prize. Over time, that jackpot builds and builds and builds until it becomes a life-changing amount. ALL players playing the slot contribute towards the jackpot, no matter at which online casino they are playing the slot at.
Usually, it’s a very rare combination of symbols or success in a fiendishly difficult side game that triggers the jackpot, making someone very happy indeed. Some jackpots are only won once every few months or so. You can discover the best payout casinos via our guide.
Slots developers have to factor in the jackpot when it comes to calculating and releasing the details of their slots with a progressive jackpot. As a result, this lowers the RTP considerably. If you want the chance of winning a massive amount of cash, then you should play slots with progressive jackpots. However, if want to play slots where you are likely to win little but often, then with progressive jackpot slots this simply is not going to happen. Progressive jackpot slots will never have the best slots RTP.
As an illustration, listed below are five of the most jackpot-laden progressive slots in the UK, the record payout and their RTPs.
Slot | Record Jackpot | RTP |
Mega Moolah | €19.4 million | 88.12% |
Mega Fortune | €17.8 million | 89.21% |
Hall of Gods | €7.8 million | 89.45% |
The Dark Knight | €6.6 million | 88.12% |
Mega Fortune Dreams | €5.5million | 89.40% |
How to Find RTP rates of Slots
We have already outlined one way of finding out the RTP of a slot (via the slots help files or instructions) but there are a few additional ways.
A few online casinos will now print the full list of their available slots and the RTP of each. This is incredible useful. Often, the list is not easy to find, but if you want our tip, head down to the bottom of any site’s casino page and see what lurks down there. You may find a link to full slots and RTPs list there. If not, look via the site’s help files, or contact support. Don’t forget that legally, the RTP of a slot has to be published in the UK.
You can also look on the internet but that comes with a caveat. Frequently, online slots review sites and bonus-linking sites will publish false RTPs of a slot in order to encourage you to play it. If you do find such information, there’s a good chance that it’s precise, but it’s always best to get a second opinion.
One thing to note, slots may be updated from time to time and the RTP may change. If it does, it will only change by a very small amount. if you find different RTPs of the same slot in different places on the internet, then this (plus the ‘not 100% honest’ reason) is probably why.
RTP and Casino Bonuses
One thing that you do really need to be aware of when it comes to casino bonuses is often slots with high RTPs do not count fully towards your wagering. This is to prevent you from grinding out wagering requirements using a slot with a high RTP. Usually, slots count 100 percent towards bonus wagering, but with some online slots the contribution is reduced, sometimes all the way down to 0 percent.
When we say reduced, we mean the proportion of your stake that counts towared wagering is reduced. Say you have a £500 wagering expectation and you pump £1 into a slot. Once the spin is over, you’d have £499 remaining. If, however, the slot only makes a 90 percent contribution to wagering, then only 90 percent of your bet will be removed, so with this example you’d still have £499.10 to go, as only 90 percent of your £1 contributed.
The following is a list of slots that commonly have wagering restrictions:
Beautiful Bones | Jack Hammer 2 | Secrets of Christmas | Jungle Spirit: Call of the Wild | Marching Legions |
Castle Builder | Kings of Chicago | Immortal Romance | Razor Shark | Power of Gods: The Pantheon |
Castle Builder II | Mega Joker | Joker Pro | Mystery Joker 6000 | Reel Hero Touch |
Cool Buck | Robin Hood: Shifting Riches | Wild Swarm | Jimi Hendrix Online Slot | Serengeti Kings |
Dragons Myth | The Wish Master | Wilderland | Secrets of Atlantis | Sky Hunters |
Forsaken Kingdom | Tomb Raider | Age of Conquest | Bikini Party | Sonic Reels |
Peek-a-Boo | Zombies | Arcade Bomb | Steam Tower | Telly Reels |
Scrooge | Eye of The Kraken | Dynamite Riches | 5 Families | Blazing Bull 2 |
Stardust | Tower Quest | Kingmaker | 9 Lions | Lucky Fridays |
Untamed Bengal Tiger | Pearls of India | Le Kaffee Bar | Bronco Spirit | Rome: The Golden Age |
Untamed Crowned Eagle | Tomb Raider 2 | Lil Devil | Caribbean Anne | Hyper Strike |
Untamed Giant Panda | Big Bang | Pyro Pixie | Desert Gem | Wolf Call |
Untamed Wolf Pack | Jackpot 6000 | Well of Wishes | Dragon Kingdom – Eyes of Fire | 10 001 Nights |
Blood Suckers | Super Nudge 6000 | White Rabbit | Emerald King | Big Bad Wolf |
Dead or Alive | Vampire: The Masquerade – Las Vegas | Wild Swarm | Golden Beauty | Supernova |
Devil’s Delight | Dead or Alive 2 | Jammin Jars | Golden Stallion | Hot Ink |
Eggomatic | Zombie Hoard | Guns N’ Roses | Hong Bao | Fruit Blast |
Online RTP v Land-based Casinos
In the ‘good old days’ real world slots never had to bother with RTPs, and there certainly was never any legal requirement for them to publish them. Mechanical slots were designed to pay out less than they took in, and that did not change much when video slots began to arrive in arcades and at casinos too.
Since the creation of the UKGC even land-based casino slots have to publish their RTP. If you are playing a slot in a casino and want to know its RTP, then iot should be printed on the cabinet itself, somewhere.
More and more land-based slots are becoming multi-slots that you can select from one single cabinet. Blueprint Gaming are the UK leaders in this and you’ll see their cabinets with all their games available in pubs, bars and casinos. These games are identical to online slots, and so have an identical RTP.
Final Thoughts
Although of course you should only ever play online slots for entertainment purposes, there is always the chance that good fortune will smile upon you and you’ll end up winning a pot of cash. If you want to maximise the chances of that happening, then you need to stick with slots with high levels of RTP.
We hope that now you are fully educated on all matters RTP, and we wish you the best of luck with all your online slots playing endeavours. Remember to stick with the best RTP online slots to max out your returns!
