Ipswich Town are looking to complete some important business in the transfer window before the new season starts in just two weeks, with the Tractor Boys pursuing interest in Blackburn’s Sammie Szmodics.

Ipswich Interested In Sammie Szmodics

Kieran McKenna and Ipswich Town will make their return to the Premier League later next month and they have been busy in the transfer market throughout this summer.

The Blues have signed Ben Johnson from West Ham, as well as Manchester City’s Liam Delap, Jacob Greaves, Arijanet Muric and former loanee Omari Hutchinson.

But Ipswich aren’t done just yet, as they have taken up interest in Blackburn Rovers superstar Sammie Szmodics who was the Championship’s top goalscorer last year for an underwhelming team.

Sszmodics scored 27 goals for Blackburn in 44 Championship games, missing just two league matches in what was a very consistent season for the 28-year-old.

The Irish forward would be a great signing for Ipswich coming into the Premier League, as he can play both up front and behind the striker which would make Szmodics a versatile option for McKenna.

Ipswich have reportedly offered an improved bid of around £8.5million for Szmodics, with Rovers considering the deal which would see them lose their best player just weeks before the season begins.

Szmodics is supposedly keen on a deal to move to Portman Road but he has still been playing in Blackburn’s pre-season friendlies with the 2024/25 Championship campaign fast approaching.

Having never played in the Premier League, it is no surprise Szmodics fancies a move to Ipswich as at the age of 28 it is hard to believe the Blackburn star will get another chance to play in the top flight.

Ipswich will be keen to get a deal over the line for Szmodics as quick as possible, with just over two weeks until they kick off their  Premier League season against Liverpool.
