Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali made his first appearance for the Magpies in over a year this week, as the Italian is set to return to the Premier League following a lengthy ban for betting.
Sandro Tonali Returns To Action
Sandro Tonali was handed a 10-month ban from all football in October last year just months after he arrived as a blockbuster signing from AC Milan, after the Italian was caught betting on his own games.
Almost one year on and Tonali is set for his return to the Premier League, which could be a huge boost for Newcastle who have lost players due to profitability and sustainability (PSR) rules.
Tonali isn’t allowed to play football until the end of August, but there is a condition in his ban that allows the midfielder to take part in training as well as behind closed doors pre season friendlies.

Under the specific circumstances, Tonali was able to play in a pre season fixture for Newcastle this week behind closed doors as the Magpies took on Burnley.
Newcastle have also reportedly organised another behind closed doors friendly against Leeds ahead of the new season, to ensure Tonali is ready to go by his September return date.
Speaking on having his Italian maestro back, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said: “I think he’s in a good place. He’s come back fit, he’s joining in with everything as he has all the way through. His attitude has been exemplary.
“I see a slight difference in Sandro now because he knows he’s close and for a player to know be won’t be picked for 10 months is very difficult mentally to have that edge to your game, but he has that now. Yes, he’ll miss the start (of the season), but he’s a massive player for us.”
Should he be fit and ready to go, Tonali’s return to the Premier League could come against Tottenham Hotspur on the 1st of September.
