Chelsea Transfer News
Mauricio Pochettino’s successor comes in from Leicester City on a five-year contract and is named as Head Coach, after earning promotion with the Foxes last season.
Among his tasks is to deliver a style of play and improve players at a time when they are striving to get back into the Champions League, after finishing sixth last season.
Chelsea need to consider their financial position in terms of Profit and Sustainability rules, but are confident they will meet all guidelines by the June 30 deadline so that they can then address issues in terms of improving the team.
It might mean offloading the likes of Trevor Chalobah, Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja but there is still an expectation that Chelsea will go on to spend this summer.
Broja spent the end of last season on loan at Fulham, however, the Albanian will return to Stamford Bridge after playing just 80 minutes in the league for the Cottagers.
One year ago the club spent £423 million and while the next window will not bring that level of spending, there is still hope that they can lift the squad’s potential.
The most exciting targets being linked with the Blues are Benjamin Sesko in attack, Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise and Championship player of the season, Crysencio Summerville.
But there will be a sense of caution too about the next phase of their build, and defence is going to be a key area of consideration, with Tosin Adarabioyo set to come in and other targets being considered additionally.
Chelsea are expected to sign a defender that can play centrally, while also being capable on the left side with links to Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez emerging.
