Toon chiefs are adamant they do not want to sell their most prized asset, but the Brazilian has a £100million release clause until the end of June.

Furthermore, Arsenal and Manchester City also have serious interest in Guimaraes. However, PSG are really stepping up their intent in the midfield maestro.

There have been some whispers that Newcastle might buckle beneath that level if a club stumps up around £80million. Nonetheless, sources around the club are insisting that would not be the case.

Yet, they are cautious that PSG have the financial power to sign Guimaraes and hope his head will not be turned. SportsLens has been reporting how the Magpies want to keep hold of Guimaraes and are confident that the player is not in a rush to leave.

The player does hold serious ambitions at the very top of the game. Also, the fact Newcastle are not in Europe next season is a potential issue and he could yet be tempted to look elsewhere.

City, Arsenal and PSG can all offer Champions League football immediately. Furthermore, they also have obvious potential for major silverware in the coming years.

Boss Eddie Howe recently said on Guimaraes and Isak: “I’m planning for them to be here. We don’t want to sell our best players.”

Any bid from the three interested clubs would be a true test of resolve. Newcastle are continuing to monitor the market for options of their own.

The current understanding is that their most exciting addition could be a new attacking threat on the right flank.
