Napoli will be on the lookout for a new striker to replace their brilliant goal-getter. The Blues could yet pose a deal that sees Romelu Lukaku head the other way.
Sources close to the situation still believe Pars Saint-Germain are still in the lead to sign Osimhen. There is an understanding of the terms that need to be in place at the end of the season.
Yet, Chelsea believe they also have convinced the player’s camp that they should not be ruled out as a serious consideration. All this despite not having Champions League football for next season.
Mauricio Pochettino is finally starting to unlock the side’s full potential. Chelsea’s strong end to the season continued on GW 37 with a 2-1 win over Brighton.
The Blues could find a way to meet Osimhen’s £115million release clause. Naturally, including Lukaku in the deal could give them an edge.
Lukaku, 31, is currently on loan at AS Roma and has no long-term future at Stamford Bridge. They need to find a solution for him as his current contract does not expire until 2026.
Napoli are continuing to look at new solutions for next season – and have been linked with Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta and Girona’s Artem Dovbyk – but nothing is yet sealed and in place.
It means that Lukaku, who has enjoyed his time in Serie A with Inter and Roma – could yet become a viable option.
Chelsea also have back-up options if they do not sign Osimhen. Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, Artem Dovbyk at Girona and Brentford’s Ivan Toney are some of the players that have been under consideration.
