Newcastle United could be open to a release clause in Alexander Isak’s contract if he signs a new deal.
Alexander Isak Transfer News
Alexander Isak will enter talks in the summer around a new agreement on his contract, as he would be due to suffer a pay cut on the current deal due to Newcastle dropping out of the Champions League.
The club have always intimated to his camp that fresh terms could be discussed, and Newcastle seem adamant they will continue to show financial commitment to their star forward. This comes at a pivotal juncture amid strong links with a move away from the club.
Sources are indicating that he might yet end up with a clause similar to the one Bruno Guimaraes has in his deal at the club.
Arsenal are being linked with Isak but the expectation the moment is that he will spend at least one more year at St James’s Park.
Guimaraes has a £100m clause in place for the start of the summer window included in his Toon deal, and by inserting a similar stipulation into any new contract for Isak, they would protect the player’s value but also give him some freedom to move if he shows intent to do so.
On Friday boss Eddie Howe was asked about Isak and Guimaraes and said: “I’m planning for them to be here. We don’t want to sell our best players.”
Newcastle are very likely to see fellow forward Callum Wilson leave the club in the summer and are beginning to look at other options to bolster the future of potential of their front line.
But that does not mean they are ready to concede defeat over front man Isak or indeed star midfielder Guimaraes, who has suitors in Arsenal, Manchester City and PSG for this summer.
