Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been praised for his ‘classy’ gesture following his side’s FA Cup victory over Newport County.
What Happened During Newport County Vs. Manchester United?
With the FA Cup Manchester United‘s only realistic chance of silverware this season, Erik ten Hag fielded his strongest starting XI in this fourth-round FA Cup fixture against Newport County in the hope of a drama-free progression to the next round.
The Dutch manager’s side got off to a dream start after goals from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo saw the Red Devils two up within the first 13 minutes.
However, Newport County were given a glimmer of hope after Bryn Morris’ long-range deflected effort found its way past Altay Bayindir in the Manchester United goal in the 36th minute.
Things then got even better for the Welsh side two minutes into the second half, after Will Evans latched onto a low Adam Lewis cross to level the scores, causing pandemonium among the home support.
Despite dominating possession, United struggled to regain the advantage until the 68th minute, when the out-of-form Antony tapped the ball home after Luke Shaw’s edge-of-the-box effort struck the post.
United then made sure of the victory when Omari Forson’s effort was denied by Newport ‘keeper Nick Townsend, only to fall at the feet of Rasmus Hojlund, who cooly found the bottom corner to put his side 4-2 up.

Ten Hag’s Gesture
Following the victory, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag showed a moment of class by offering Newport County manager Graham Coughlan a gift.
After both managers had completed their media duties, Ten Hag approached Coughlan holding a bottle of wine, saying: “We have a small gift for you.”
A surprised Coughlan jokingly replied: “Brilliant. You know I don’t drink wine, I drink Budweiser.”
Ten Hag continued: “Really, Budweiser? American beer? But this is a really very good one chosen by Sir Alex [Ferguson] so maybe your wife will enjoy it.
“Maybe have a taste, I think you will like it. Well done for tonight.”
