See our latest Newcastle Transfer Exclusive where sources have told SportsLens that the Magpies are not prepared to start cashing in on star players, despite comments made by those high up at the club this week.
Newcastle Not Keen On Selling Big Names
Chief executive Darren Eales painted a gloomy picture on Thursday, warning that they (Newcastle) may need to sell big names in order to remodel their squad to fit in with Financial Fair Play rules.
Clubs across Europe may see Newcastle’s public statement from Eales as a chance to test their resolve around such key assets in the coming weeks.
Bruno Guimaraes has attracted attention from Paris Saint-Germain, Alexander Isak has been linked with Arsenal, and Sven Botman has long-term admiration from clubs in Italy – particularly AC Milan.
But a sudden exodus of top talent is not on the horizon, as other sources are indicating that the club are comfortable with the team build and bids for players like Guimaraes, Isak and Botman would be rejected instantly.
Further down the line, perhaps Newcastle would consider such bids to upgrade the squad and open up financial flexibility but in this window that is certainly not expected to be the case. And even in the summer there is not a desire to listen to offers for them.
Magpies Not Ruling Out Incomings
Eddie Howe‘s side should not be ruled out of making new signings of their own this month either.
Kalvin Phillips remains a player they are interested in signing and there have been whispers that they could look to sign another forward. This comes amid fears they would be left short if Callum Wilson and Isak were to be absent at the same time in the second half of the season.
Both strikers have picked up different injuries over the past 18 months and it would be far from ideal if both were out of action at the same time.
