Manchester United fans on Twitter/X want to see Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick replace Erik ten Hag following his side’s Carabao Cup victory over Chelsea.
Middlesbrough Vs. Chelsea
Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick finds himself on the brink of reaching the Carabao Cup final following his side’s 1-0 victory over Premier League side Chelsea last night.
A 37th-minute strike from Hayden Hackney was enough to separate the sides, despite Chelsea’s dominance of the game.
Chelsea were relentless in their pursuit of an equaliser, but, following missed chances from Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Nicolas Jackson, Mauricio Pochettino saw his side fail to make the breakthrough and will now head into the second leg a goal down.
Having taken over the club in October 2022, Boro boss Carrick was visibly beaming after the game and suggested the victory was the proudest moment of his managerial career so far.

Manchester United’s Subpar Season
In contrast to Middlesbrough’s unexpected cup run, Manchester United have struggled in nearly all competitions they have taken part in this season, bar their 2-0 victory over Wigan in the fledgling rounds of the FA Cup.
Knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the round of 16, crashing out of the Champions League before Christmas and languishing in 8th in the Premier League, it’s clear that the Red Devils have struggled for form this campaign.
As a result, pressure has, unsurprisingly, started to mount on Erik ten Hag, with a large portion of the Old Trafford faithful calling for the former Ajax manager to be sacked.
But, with the majority of the game’s top managers already in employment, who could replace the Dutch coach? Well, Manchester United fans on Twitter believe they have found their man – former club captain and current flavour of the month, Michael Carrick.

I think we should be keeping a close eye on Michael Carrick
His intelligence as a player seems to be coming out as a manager

Michael Carrick is aptly an intelligent man. I noted this when he was a caretaker manager at my beloved club Man United.
If they were to sack ETH I would root for this man. Thanks for dealing with Chelsea. pic.twitter.com/ZKBbvgSgt4
