Newcastle received a financial takeover from Saudi Arabia in 2021 and since then the Magpies have certainly invested heavily in the transfer market – read below to find out Newcastle’s most expensive singings including their record transfer.

The Magpies qualified to the Champions League for the first time since 2004 last season, with their transfer budget seeing a significant boost in the summer.

Eddie Howe spent over £150m last summer to increase his sides depth coming into their Champions League campaign, with the likes of Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento joining but neither of them are quite the Magpies record signing – so who is?

Newcastle Record Signing

Alexander Isak is Newcastle’s record signing, with the Swedish forward making his move to the Premier League in summer of 2022 from Real Sociedad.

Newcastle paid the La Liga side £63m for Isak last year, with the Magpies breaking their previous transfer record (Joelinton in 2019) by over £20m.

Isak scored 44 goals in 132 appearances for Sociedad, making him one of the hottest properties in Europe last summer at the age of just 22-years-old.

Since joining last year, Isak has seriously impressed for high-flying Newcastle and he has quickly become a fan favourite for the Magpies as well as one of the first names on Eddie Howe’s team sheet.

The youngster made a quick start to life in England when he joined, scoring two goals in his first three Premier League appearances to show just how good he really is.

Unfortunately for Newcastle fans Isak picked up an injury within his first two months in Tyneside, which meant he missed the remainder of 2022 with a serious knock.

Despite the setback, Isak still managed to score 10 league goals for Newcastle last season in an impressive debut campaign – but injuries continued to torment the Swedish international.

This year Isak has been one of many Newcastle players struggling to keep fit, perhaps because of their fixture congestion with Champions League and a busy Christmas period.

Isak has scored seven goals in just ten starts for the Magpies this season, but he has yet again been struggling with injuries and was forced to watch on from the sidelines in Newcastle’s loss to Chelsea in the EFL Cup.
