Everton vs Fulham Report:
The Toffees went into the game on a good run of form, having won five of their last six games. Sean Dyche’s side were aiming to reach the semi-finals of the EFL Cup for the first time since the 2015/16 season.
Fulham, on the other hand, have never made it to that stage of the competition. Marco Silva’s side had already won at Goodison Park this season when the sides met on the opening weekend of the Premier League.
The first half was scrappy, with neither side really grabbing hold of the game. Dwight McNeil and Jarrad Branthwaite both had good chances to score, but it was Fulham that took the lead, albeit through an own goal.
The Cottagers worked the ball well, with Willian finding the overlapping run of Antonee Robinson, whose cross into the box deflected off Michael Keane and flew past Jordan Pickford between the sticks.
Beto equalised for the Toffees after 82 minutes, when James Garner’s strike deflected into the path of the Portuguese striker to head home from five yards and take the game to penalties.
Both teams were finding the back of the net from the spot with relative ease before Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s penalty was saved by Pickford, giving Amadou Onana the chance to win it. However, the Belgian’s weak effort was comfortably stopped by Bernd Leno.
Later in the shootout, Idrissa Gueye struck the post, giving Tosin Adarabioyo the opportunity to make himself a hero, and he dispatched, sending Silva’s side into the semi-finals for the first time in the club’s history.
