Manchester City have dominated British football over recent years, winning the illustrious treble in 2023. But what is the club’s record transfer fee?

Manchester City takeover

In September 2008, Sheikh Mansour purchased Manchester City from former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The Manchester City owner is reported to have a net worth of £17 billion and is said to be one of the wealthiest men in football.

Mansour continues to invest in the football club, putting over £2 billion into business and has guided the club up the value rankings – despite recent FFP charges.

Under his ownership, Manchester City have gone on to dominate events in England, winning seven Premier League titles, the Champions League, three FA Cups, six League Cups and most recently became the second English team to complete the treble.

Manchester City Record Transfer Fee

Pep Guardiola’s side have been extremely active in recent transfer windows, spending over £1.5 billion since the summer window in 2008.

The England international had become a household name during his time at Aston Villa, after working his way through the ranks with the Villains and becoming club captain.

Prior to this signing, City’s record fee was £62m, after the blue side of Manchester City triggered the release clause of Rodri during his time with Atletico Madrid.

Over the course of his Aston Villa career, Grealish helped the club return to the Premier League – playing a crucial role in the Championship play-off triumph in 2019.

In his first season with Manchester City, the 28-year-old endured a tough opening after contributing to just 10 goals in 39 appearances (6G+3A).

However, Grealish played a huge role in the following season, contributing to 16 goals in 50 appearances and playing over 3400 minutes – guiding his side to an infamous treble victory.

Josko Gvardiol Transfer

The Croatian defender became City’s second most expensive signing in August 2023, signing from RB Leipzig for a reported £77.5m.

During his time in Germany, the defender accumulated a huge amount of praise for his performances at such a young age.

The 21-year-old won consecutive German Cups from 2021-2023 and became a regular member in his national side – competing in the 2022 World Cup.

Since signing for the blue half of Manchester, Gvardiol has already won his first piece of silverware, as the club clinched the UEFA Super Cup.
