Chelsea vs Newcastle Preview & Prediction
After overcoming reigning champions Manchester United 3-0 in the last round, Newcastle head to the capital to take on Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
The Blues’ win in the last round wasn’t quite as glamorous, however they got the job done with Raheem Sterling and Benoit Badiashile scoring either side of the half time whistle to overcome Championship side Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at home.
Both sides come into this one off the back of victories in the league, with Chelsea beating Sheffield United 2-0 to bring a two game losing streak to an end, meanwhile Eddie Howe‘s Magpies dispatched 10-man Fulham 3-0 to end a run of three successive defeats in all competitions.
The pair last met less than a month ago, in the Premier League, where Newcastle put their London-based opposition to the sword with Alexander Isak, Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon all scoring in a 4-1 rout at St. James’ Park.
Since then though, the Magpies look to have struggled with the packed winter schedule and have suffered numerous injuries in recent weeks. Despite this, we at SportsLens still anticipate a victory for the visitors, but only by the narrowest of margins.
