Newcastle vs Fulham Report: Lewis Miley Shines Again

The hosts went into the game looking to rectify their three-match losing streak, culminating in them exiting the Champions League. The away side, on the other hand, looked to continue their free-scoring run, having won back-to-back games 5-0.

Newcastle started the brighter side and were handed a huge boost after 22 minutes when Raul Jimenez was sent off for a bizarre and dangerous challenge on Sean Longstaff.

Fulham’s resistance was stubborn initially, having gone into halftime still level, despite a near miss from Anthony Gordon, whose effort hit the bar.

The Magpies broke the deadlock after 57 minutes thanks to 17-year-old Lewis Miley, who lashed home his first senior goal. Miley is now the club’s youngest ever player to score in the Premier League.

Miguel Almiron soon doubled Newcastle’s lead, before Dan Burn added a third on his return from injury, bundling home Bruno Guimaraes’ cross at the second attempt.

Eddie Howe’s side win for the first time in four and move ahead of Manchester United in sixth. Fulham drop into the bottom half but remain 12 points above the relegation zone.

Marco Silva’s side will aim to get back on track when they travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton in the quarter final of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. Newcastle also aim to reach the last four of that competition when they visit Chelsea the same night.
