The final matchday of the Europa League group stage is upon us, and with plenty of qualification spots still up for grabs – there are 16 fixtures that get underway from 17:45 on Thursday evening.
There’s just one Premier League side in action during the early kick-offs, as high-flying Liverpool take on Union Saint-Gilloise in Group E. The Reds have already been confirmed as group winners, therefore several changes are expected to be made to their starting line-up. Elsewhere in the group Toulouse face LASK, with the Ligue 1 side looking likeliest side to join Liverpool in the knockout stages.
Also at 17:45, Group F sees the already-confirmed top two of Rennes and Villarreal battle it out for top spot, meanwhile Panathinaikos host Maccabi Haifa in a showdown for third place.
Group G is similar in the sense that the top two of has already been decided with Slavia Prague, who take on Servette, leading the way, followed by Jose Mourinho’s Roma who will be praying that results go in their favour in order to top the group, as they face off against Sheriff Tiraspol.
The only side to have won all five group matches in the competition, Bayer Leverkusen, are also in action during the early kick-offs against Molde, with a first place finish already confirmed for Xabi Alonso’s side. Azerbaijani Premier League side Qarabag entertain Swedish champions Hacken in the group’s other fixture.
Three British sides are in action during the late kick-offs, with West Ham taking on Freiburg in one of the standout ties. The pair have already secured their spots in the next round, however the winner of this one will advance as group winners, meanwhile in the group’s other fixture Olympiacos take on Backa Topola in a dead rubber tie.
Like West Ham’s group, both Brighton and Marseille have secured the top two spots and they face off on the final matchday. Whoever wins will be crowned champions of the group and will advance straight to the last-16, and Ajax will be hoping to end their campaign on a positive note against AEK Athens at the same time.
Perhaps the tightest group of the bunch is Rangers‘ Group C. The Gers need to beat Real Betis or hope that Sparta Prague do not beat Aris Limassol in the group’s other fixture in order to guarantee a top two finish.
To round off our action, Rakow take on Atalanta and Sporting host Sturm Graz in Group D. The top two in this group has already been decided, with Atalanta confirmed as group winners into the last-16, while Sporting are into the knockout round play-offs as runners-up.
