Celtic are all but out of the 2023-24 Champions League, as they sit bottom of Group E and are six points off second place. However, in more damming news, Celtic are just one defeat away from becoming the first British side to remain winless  from 15 consecutive matches in the Champions League.

Celtic Set To Be Winless In 15 Champions League Matches

The Scottish side have struggled in Europe’s elite competition over recent years, despite dominating their domestic competitions.

Celtic currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership and hold an eight-point lead over fierce rivals, Rangers, who sit second.

Their Champions League form has failed to impress, losing to Atletico Madrid, Feyenoord and Lazio – picking up just one point at home to the Spanish side.

In the 2022-23 campaign, Celtic were drawn in a group with Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk – where they accumulated just two points.

Losing to Real Madrid and RB Leipzig twice, their only points came in two 1-1 draws with Shakhtar and saw them crash out of the competition.

Prior to that season, Celtic’s most recent entry into the Champions League came in 2017/18 – where they also failed to progress from the group stage.

In a group of PSG, Bayern Munich and Anderlecht, Celtic lost to the French side twice, took to defeats at the hands of Bayern Munich and picked up their most recent win in the competition – beating Anderlecht 3-0 away from home in September 2017.

Celtic’s Champions League Woes 2023-24

Neil Lennon’s side began their European campaign on 19th September, losing 2-0 away to Feyenoord after going to nine-men.

Gustaf Lagerbielke saw red in the 63rd minute after two bookable offences and Odin Thiago Holm was sent off for a reckless tackle just five minutes later.

The Scottish giants then had to home fixtures, losing to Lazio 2-1 and holding Ateltico Madrid to a draw in their only point of the campaign.

Diego Simeone’s side got their revenge in the reverse fixture, thrashing Celtic 6-0 in the biggest defeat of the Champions League so far.

Celtic need a miracle to progress to the round of 16, as they travel to Lazio and then welcome Feyenoord – needing to win both matches and hope Atletico beat both by heavy margins.
