Aaron Ramsdale’s Likeliest January Destination Is Chelsea Claims Ex-Man City Man Danny Mills

Former Manchester City and England defender Danny Mills has claimed that out-of-favour Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is more likely to join Chelsea than any other English club in January.

Aaron Ramsdale has turned out just twice for Arsenal since returning from international duty back in September, and looks to have well and truly lost his starting berth to David Raya for the remainder of the campaign.

Despite his lack of game time at club level under Mikel Arteta, Gareth Southgate has remained loyal to the 25-year-old and named him in his most recent England squad to take on Malta and North Macedonia in European Championship qualifying.

With next summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany on the horizon though, other goalkeepers may soon rise above him in the pecking order if his absence from club action continues. This has led to speculation surrounding his future in north London, with some outlets even tipping a January exit.

TalkSPORT claim that Newcastle United are among those interested in a move for Ramsdale this winter, however ex-Manchester City and England defender Danny Mills isn’t so sure, and sees a move across London to Chelsea as a more likely outcome to the situation.

“Chelsea probably, because I think Eddie Howe is loyal to his players. I don’t think Howe would do that to Nick Pope mid-season.” Mills told talkSPORT when asked where he thinks Ramsdale could go in January.

“It would be a problem. It would cause disruption probably among the rest of the team. So, I don’t see (him going to) Newcastle.

“(Newcastle signing Ramsdale would) be a bit harsh on Nick Pope. We’re all saying it’s not right Raya has come in and played ahead of Ramsdale. Would that situation be any different (at Newcastle)?

“He is probably a little better with his feet than Pope. In terms of goalkeeping, there is not much in it. He is not substantially better than Nick Pope.”

Exclusive Ramsdale next club odds, compiled by SportsLens, indicate that the goalkeeper is likelier to depart the Emirates in the summer rather than in January, and a price of 12/1 has been handed for Chelsea to secure his signature, while Manchester United are priced at 8/1 to sign him.
