As Wales prepare to take on Armenia and Turkey in their final Euro 2024 qualifying matches, read on for the full list of qualification permutations as the Dragons aim to reach a third successive European Championship finals.
Rob Page and his Wales side took a major step towards qualifying for Euro 2024 in Germany with a stunning victory over Croatia at the Cardiff City Stadium last month, but with two games to go – there is plenty of work to do.
Harry Wilson’s second half double was enough to secure a crucial three points against Luka Modric and co., lifting the Dragons up to second in the group, putting them in pole position to secure the second automatic qualification spot in Group D.
Group leaders Turkey have already booked their spot at next summer’s tournament, and Wales can achieve the same feat if they reign victorious in their final two group matches.
Once again, the Dragons will be without injured-captain Aaron Ramsey, but will be boosted by the return of Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson, while Sunderland’s Niall Huggins and Coventry’s Jay Dasilva will be involved for the first time after receiving their maiden senior call-ups.
How Can Wales Qualify For Euro 2024?
To guarantee automatic qualification to Euro 2024, Wales will need to beat both Armenia and Turkey in their final two group matches.
The Dragons are currently level on points with Croatia and will finish above them if they end up on the same number of points due to their head-to-head record, therefore by winning their last two games – Zlatko Dalic’s side would be unable to reclaim second place in the group.
Although unlikely, Wales could still earn qualification to next summer’s finals if they fail to win either, or both, of their games against Armenia and Turkey, but would require Croatia to drop the same amount, or more, points from their clashes against Latvia and Armenia.
If Wales fail to secure their spot in a third successive European Championship through direct qualification, not all hope is lost. Like their entry to last winter’s World Cup in Qatar, the Dragons are almost certain to have a Nations League play-off spot to fall back on.
This is due to the majority of the 15 teams that are ranked higher than them in the Nations League are all on course to qualify, and the 12 best-ranked teams that fail to qualify directly will be handed a second opportunity through the play-offs, set to take place in March.
