Manchester United have been dealt a double blow as Danish duo Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund have withdrawn from international duty after the pair were forced off due to injury against Luton at the weekend.

As we approach the final international window of 2023, Manchester United duo Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund have withdrawn from Denmark’s squad ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

The pair were due to join up with Kasper Hjulmand’s squad for two European Championship qualifiers against Slovenia and Northern Ireland, but have now been replaced by Jesper Lindstrom and Jens Stryger Larsen due to injury.

Both Eriksen and Hojlund were forced off in the 1-0 Premier League victory over Luton on Saturday, with the former being replaced by Mason Mount in the first half due to a knee issue, while the latter hobbled off with a hamstring problem just 11 minutes from time.

Manchester United are yet to provide a statement of their own, but the news comes at a time where their list of injury concerns is already extensive as it is.

Erik ten Hag will be hopeful that a break for the Danish duo will boost their chances of a return upon the culmination of the internationals, as he is already without the likes of Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez for several months.

Jonny Evans, who has been preferred to Raphael Varane in the Red Devils line-up as of late, is another who is set for a spell on the treatment table. The Northern Ireland international suffered a thigh injury in the win over Copenhagen in the Champions League last week, with the club confirming that the 35-year-old will be ‘out of action for the next few weeks’.
