Manchester City vs Young Boys Preview and Prediction
Last month’s showing in the reverse of this fixture saw Manchester City survive a momentary scare in Bern, with Erling Haaland’s second-half brace sparing their blushes against minnows Young Boys.
The defending title holders return to Manchester as one of four teams with a 100% record after three games, and will be fully expectant to stretch that run to four straight games on Tuesday evening.
Along with Red Star Belgrade, this week’s visitors have managed just one point so far, leaving second-placed RB Leipzig as the likeliest team to join City in the knockout stages.
Although Pep Guardiola will more than likely be without Haaland for this return fixture, the Spaniard will be aiming to make it 17 unbeaten games in the Champions League, which would surpass his previous record between 2011-2012 whilst at the helm in Barcelona.
In what should be a formality for the treble winners, we are predicting a heavy defeat for Young Boys in midweek.
Prediction: Manchester City 5 – 1 Young Boys
Manchester City vs Young Boys Tips
- Manchester City Over 4.5 Goals @ 16/5
- Jeremy Doku to Score @ 43/20
- Combined Odds @ 6/1
Manchester City vs Young Boys Tip One: City Over 4.5 Goals
With Manchester City as short as 1/14, this fixture is proving somewhat difficult for bettors attempting to unearth value.
The manner in which they went about their business against Bournemouth last time out should be cause for concern for Young Boys. Particularly on home soil, Guardiola’s side have been their usual imperious selves this season, and they should have little trouble pulling apart inferior opposition.
For context, they are unbeaten in their previous 27 home games in the Champions League.
They have scored five goals at home on two occasions already this season, and although it took them until the 67th minute to regain the lead against the Swiss champions last time out, a goal-laden victory feels inevitable hot off the press of a 6-1 drubbing over the weekend.
Manchester City vs Young Boys Tip Two: Doku to Score
Manchester City can wrap up qualification with a victory here, and Guardiola is unlikely to tinker with his squad too much. Julian Alvarez is expected to be deployed in place of Erling Haaland at the spearhead of the attack, but who his supporting cast will be remains unclear.
We do expect Jeremy Doku to keep his starting spot however. The Belgian has been a breath of fresh air for Manchester City, combining the unpredictably that Riyad Mahrez possessed with bursts of blistering pace that has been absent from this side at times.
It leaves Jack Grealish’s spot increasingly under threat, particularly after a glittering performance against Bournemouth where he registered four assists and a goal for himself.
His confidence will be at an all-time high, which should unsettle Young Boys left-back Ulisses Garcia.
