Luton have seen their chance of relegation decrease after earning a 1-1 draw with Liverpool. The Hatters were moments away from victory, but Luis Diaz’s last minute header cancelled out Tahith Chong’s opener.

Match Report: Luton vs Liverpool
- The visitors got off to a flying start, as Darwin Nunez unleashed a powerful strike towards the top right corner but Thomas Kaminski denied the Uruguayan.
- Liverpool came close once again and it was Nunez causing problems for Jurgen Klopp’s side. The former Benfica star cannoned a shot goal wards but struck the crossbar.
- Diogo Jota was next to trouble the Luton goal, however, Kaminski was on hand to stop Liverpool from taking the lead and the score we even at half time.
- The second half proved a more cagey affair, until the 71st minute. Mohamed Salah saw his header go across the six-yard box and fall to Darwin Nunez who blazed over from just 4 yards out.
- Kenilworth Road was sent into raptures in the 81st minute, as Luton took the lead in stunning fashion. A swift counter attack was finished off by Tahith Chong and the hosts had a lead to protect.
- Luton looked like they were on their way to a historic Premier League upset, but Luis Diaz’s last-minute header found the top corner and the points were shared.
Can Luton Avoid Relegation?
The Hatters have endured a difficult start to the Premier League, as they have won just once this season. However, today’s result moves them out of the relegation places – going above Bournemouth on goal difference.
It’s been a historic start for the newly-promoted sides, but not in a positive light. Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton have accumulated the lowest points tally in history from the opening 11 matches (15 points).
Many have tipped Luton to return to the Championship at the end of the season, but today’s result could give Hatters supporters hope.
Luton’s next Premier League fixture is another huge task, as they travel to Old Trafford where Manchester United will be looking to build off their win over Fulham on Saturday.
