Match Report: Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa
- The hosts took a surprise lead in this Super Sunday opener, as Ola Aina unleashed a wicket left-footed strike into the bottom corner. Putting Forest 1-0 up in just seven minutes.
- Forest continued to have the better chances and Aston Villa struggled to implement the style of play we have become accustom too.
- The second-half followed a similar path, as Nottingham Forest doubled their lead just moments after the restart. Orel Mangala took aim from 25 yards and Emiliano Martinez saw his save take a vicious backspin – spiraling the ball past the line.
- Lucas Digne came close for the visitors, however his powerful effort flew just over the crossbar and Villa again failed to trouble Odysseas Vlachodimos in the Forest net.
- Nottingham Forest continue to keep their opponents at bay and held on to a crucial three points.
Can Aston Villa Qualify For The Champions League?
The Villains have made a stellar start to the Premier League and today’s defeat sees them stay at fifth in the table. A victory today would have moved Villa into fourth – with Liverpool playing later on this afternoon.
Today’s result ended their unbeaten run of six matches in all competitions, but Unai Emery’s men have a real chance of qualifying in the top four.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Brighton have all slightly under performed so far, meaning the opportunity is at an all-time high.
Aston Villa will be looking to continue their good run of form next week as they welcome Fulham to Villa Park – a stadium that has become quite a fortress.
