With pressure mounting on Erik ten Hag following two successive defeats, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes provided the goods as the Red Devils secured a late victory on the road against Fulham on Saturday.
Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League‘s early kick-off on Saturday, with club captain Bruno Fernandes popping up with a late winner to spare Erik ten Hag’s blushes.
The Red Devils had suffered two consecutive defeats prior to the win over Fulham, losing 3-0 to Manchester City in the league, and 3-0 to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, seeing pressure mount on head coach Ten Hag.
Not only was the Dutchman subject to criticism from fans and pundits alike, but Fernandes as well, with ex-club captain captain Roy Keane claiming that the Portugal international should be stripped of his captaincy.
Ten Hag’s line-up selection was a talking point prior to kick-off as well, with Marcus Rashford being omitted from the squad due to injury, whilst Raphael Varane and Mason Mount were named on the bench once again.
It looked to be heading for a disappointing afternoon from a United perspective once again, as they headed for a goalless stalemate at Craven Cottage, but a misplaced clearance from Joao Palhinha found Fernandes on the edge of the area, who smashed home past Bernd Leno to win it for the visitors in stoppage time.

Despite securing a vital three points though, it was another performance that left a lot to be desired by Ten Hag’s side, as Fulham dominated large chunks of the game, especially in the second period.
The win could prove to be a turning point in the Red Devils’ season, and provide the squad with a much needed confidence boost heading into Wednesday evening’s Champions League tie away at Copenhagen, followed by a home clash against Luton in the league next Saturday.
