Unbeaten Arsenal face a long trip up north to St. James’ Park on Saturday as they take on Newcastle in the Premier League‘s late kick-off, and ahead of the clash – we’ve got the latest line-ups and team news for both sides coming into the fixture.
Newcastle vs Arsenal Team News & Injury Update
The Magpies’ already extensive list of injury absentees was added to during the midweek Carabao Cup win over Manchester United, as left-back Matt Targett was forced off with a hamstring injury five minutes into the tie, ruling him out for Arsenal’s visit and for the forseeable future.
Regardless, Dan Burn was expected to return to the line-up in his place, but Targett joins Javier Manquillo (groin), Lewis Miley (illness), Alexander Isak (groin), Sven Botman (knee), Elliot Anderson (back), Jacob Murphy (shoulder) and Harvey Barnes (ankle) on the treatment table.
Sandro Tonali, of course, is another who is unavailable after the Italian was handed a lengthy 10-month suspension for breaching gambling rules.
Ex-Gunners midfielder Joe Willock scored in the cup victory in midweek, however he’s largely expected to drop back to the bench for this one due to his recent fitness issues.
As for Arsenal, they will be without a quartet of first-team players, with Emile Smith Rowe being the latest name added to the list of absentees due to a fresh knee problem.
He joins Thomas Partey (muscular), Gabriel Jesus (hamstring) and Jurrien Timber (knee) on the sidelines, whilst Mikel Arteta’s men will be desperate to bounce back from their defeat to West Ham on Wednesday evening.
Eddie Nketiah, who has started both of the Gunners’ games since Jesus’ injury, will almost certainly lead the line, and he’ll be looking to replicate his heroics from their last league game against Sheffield United, where he bagged a stunning hat-trick.
