Pundits Micah Richards and Gary Lineker have made a claim on their podcast ‘The Rest Is Football’ – saying Cristian Romero is the best defender in the Premier League.
Lineker, Richards and Alan Shearer, have been successful in the podcasting world after starting ‘The Rest Is Football’ and their recent claim highlights Tottenham Hotspur defender Romero.
Former Spurs striker Lineker has revealed he believes the defensive duo of Micky Van de Ven and Romero is the best in the Premier League currently.
That puts them above the likes of Arsenal’s William Saliba andGabriel Magalhaes and Manchester City’s John Stones and Ruben Dias.
Lineker said (on The Rest Is Football): “And at the back, Van de Ven and Romero, is there a better defensive partnership in the Premier League at the moment? You perhaps look at Manchester City but they tend to move around their partnerships so much.”
His co-host, Richards, then replied to this claim and voiced his concern over the Spurs duo and in particular, Romero.
Richards then responded with: “The only I would say about Spurs is that Romero, he tends to get a little bit excited from time to time.”

Richards and Lineker’s claim that Romero and Van de Ven could seem reactionary, but the defensive record at Spurs has been superb – conceding just nine goals in the league.
