Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has been slashed to 15/2 (from 25/1) to become the next manager of Manchester United, amid rumours that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is a big fan and with the pressure continuing to mount on Erik Ten Haag after a 3-0 home loss to Newcastle on the Carabao Cup.

Ten Hag Remains Under Pressure After Man City Drubbing

Despite a 1-0 Champions League win over Copenhagen recently, the pressure continues to increase on Manchester United boss Ten Hag with humiliating 3-0 home defeats to bitter rivals Manchester City in the Premier League and another loss (by the same scoreline) at Old Trafford to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

Add in his ongoing public spat with talented youngster Jadon Sancho and opening seven Premier League games being United’s to their worst league start to a season in 37 years – are the Dutchman’s days numbered in the Red Devils hot-seat?

As a result of the continued rumblings of unrest at Old Trafford, many shrewd footballing judges – including the SportsLens odds compilers – are tipping the former Chelsea manager, Graham Potter to pounce, should the Old Trafford bigwigs show Ten Hag the door.

With, in recent days, the Graham Potter next Manchester United odds being slashed from 25/1 to 15/2 with the best UK football betting sites – and you suspect if this story gathers pace it won’t be long before his price for the Red Devil top job goes deeper into single-figures.

Neil Roarty, Betting Expert and Spokesperson at Sportslens, said: “Manchester United are struggling domestically and in Europe so it’s no surprise to see Erik ten Hag linked with an exit.

“With new investment looking likely at Old Trafford a new manager could follow and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s admiration for Graham Potter could be the reason his odds are tumbling.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe Rumoured To Be A Big Potter Fan (Graham, Not Harry)

With a name like ‘Ratcliffe’ it’s no surprise Sir Jim (70) is a Potter fan.

Okay, the spelling of Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe is one letter out, but it’s good enough for us here at SportsLens to get a tenuous link into this story.

As far as we know Sir Jim Ratcliffe isn’t a Harry Potter fan, but there are strong rumours surfacing that he IS a ‘Graham Potter’ admirer, which is leading to the former Seagulls front man being tipped as the new United manager.

The Ineos owner is expected to end speculation soon of a potential Red Devils takeover with the purchase of a minority 25% stake in the Manchester club. The deal is reported to be worth £1.4billion and, if sanctioned as anticipated at a board meeting, would give the petrochemicals giant the control of sporting operations.

Once in place, there is a strong prospect Ratcliffe will wield the axe and shake-up the Manchester United staff – both in the main position with Erik Ten Hag and those in behind him.

Yes, there’s been reports that the Dutchman’s job is safe, but we all know this ‘job is safe’ statement in football management terms often means the complete opposite.

Sir David Brailsford, who is Ratcliffe’s aide, is also meant to be a big Graham Potter fan and this has been backed up by another football team that Ineos are involved with – French side Nice – trying to appoint Potter earlier in 2023.

Graham Potter Managerial Records (Brighton & Chelsea)

  • Chelsea (8th Sept 2022 – 2nd April 2023): P31, W12, D8, L11, Win strike-rate 39%
  • Brighton (20th May 2019 – 8th Sept 2022): P134, W43, D43, L48, Win strike-rate 32%

Graham Potter has not been in charge of a football club since getting sacked by Chelsea after just 7 months in charge back in early April 2023 – following a 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa.

Despite his short tenure at Stamford Bridge, many feel it was more Chelsea, and their wranglings behind the scenes, that were to blame for their poor form – and not Potter.

So, it’s expected another big side will take a chance on the former Brighton man, with many not forgetting how he transformed the south coast side between 2019 and 2022.

Other Contenders To Be The Next Manchester United Manager

Former Real Madrid player and manager Zinedine Zidane, who has been out of a role since May 2021, is another big name that could be in line for the next Manchester United managers job at 4/1 with some of the top UK betting sites.

While the German national team coach Julia Nagelsmann is another name being batted about – if the betting is to be believed.
