Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has provided an injury update for his side ahead of a London derby against Arsenal on Saturday, with the Argentine confirming that Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson and Reece James all face a late assessment ahead of the clash.
Gameweek nine of the Premier League is almost upon us, and with a full list of fixtures – a London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge stands out as one of the key fixtures of the weekend.
The pair meet at 17:30 on Saturday evening, with the Blues looking to build on their three successive domestic victories, while the Gunners look to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2023/24 league campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a slow start to the season but started to pick up some form prior to the internationals, and will likely move into the top half with a victory on Saturday.
Of course, a win won’t come easy for Pochettino over Mikel Arteta, whom he has a ‘brotherly’ relationship with, due to the Gunners’ excellent domestic form, coupled with the Blues’ injury concerns heading into the tie.
Pochettino Provides Chelsea Injury Update
The Argentine delivered the latest Chelsea injury update in his pre-London derby press conference on Friday afternoon, revealing that Reece James, Nicolas Jackson and Axel Disasi face a late assessment ahead of the tie.
“We need to assess Axel [Disasi] and Nicolas Jackson and assess Reece [James]. [Armando] Broja is out, he has a bit of irritation on his knee but it’s the other knee, not the one that was a problem in the past. We have a few players we have to assess to see if they will be available or not tomorrow.
“Benoit Badiashile could be available also on the bench. Reece was training good the last few days, now we need to have a talk with the medical staff and decide if he can be part of the squad tomorrow.
“Enzo [Fernandez] trained yesterday, he arrived in the afternoon and had a check in with the doctor and was in a very good state. He also trained with the group today.”
